Rule unpopular one: smile and wave.
Rule unpopular two: nothing happenedI woke with a start. My meds for the terror already laid out on the night table. Getting those pills down I pulled some stretchy shorts on and A nice white tank top that hangs loosely and has a hood on the back.
It nearly covers my shorts so I tuck a corner of it into them.
I put on my short skater boots and make my way down stairs. Dreading the school day ahead I walk to the kitchen. My mom as per usual left a banana smoothie on the counter for me and as usual I dump it down the sink so when she comes back home she'll think I drank it.
My friend Lizzy pulls in front of my house not 3 minutes later ready to drive to school. Lizzy is a tall, skinny girl with long thick hazel coloured hair that flows as she walks. her eyes are a light brown with golden flecks in them making them sparkle when she gets excited or is happy. Walking outside I through my bag into the trunk of her blue volts wagon beetle and slide into the front.
Ok so it was more like awkwardly flail my arms around till I fall into the cars seat. Lizzy bursts out laughing at my struggles only calming down once my seat belt is fastened.
The car ride is uneventful all we do is talk about basketball and what not seeing as we're both on the team this year. Well I'm kinda on the team, the coach made me manager as soon as she found out about my issues. We walk into school and Lizzy moves to go to her locker as we walk there I greet those people who wave at me.
I'm not popular in fact I only have 1 real friend everyone else are just people I've met. I smile and wave as I walk past people in the halls, now you're probably thinking 'why would you say hi to so many people when you're trying to go unnoticed?' Well it's simple really. There are 3 reasons People approach you to talk
1. Because they have something to tell you
2. haven't seen you in a while or
3. are just being friendly
If you wave and smile they feel like they've seen you and have been friendly enough and don't need to have a full conversation with you, keeping them at bay and out of your face for a while. A girl named Suzy runs up to me like an excited puppy. I completely forgot her distance period is over. She raps her arms around me and smiles brightly squishing me in a hug as she pulls back she starts talking to me like we are best friends only we hardly speak. Here's the thing with rule number one, After a while the person starts to realize that they haven't actually spoken to you in a long time so they make a point of starting conversation with you. I call that their refresh time. It takes one conversion to refresh the distance period then you have approximately 3 weeks of not talking to that person.
It's 2 minutes before the first bell rings and Suzy is still yapping away in front of me. She says something about having to go Because her math teacher is tired of her being late and the next time she is she gets detention.
Funny enough I'm in the same maths class as her
But I'm not going to tell her that.
I wait a little till I can't see Suzy any more and start walking toward the class room.
The doors left open which makes it easier to slip in unnoticed that is until my bag catches on the handle and I jerk backwards. With a loud thud my butt makes contact with the ground and every eye in the room turns my way. all except one boy. Almost instantly my face turns bright red from the looks I'm getting, most looks hold amusement others hold confusion but there's still that one boy who didn't look to see my idiocy for himself.
Surly you're thinking I've blown my cover as a nobody and everyone will talk about that spill but it was just a fall. the key to being ignored after something embarrassing happens is to get up and walk normally to your place as if nothing happened and everyone will think it's nothing interesting.
I do just that.
I get up and walk to the middle of the room sitting in my regular spot just slightly to the left of the middle row. Nobody sits here because this is the row that if the teacher is writing in the board you can't see it. The boy who didn't bother looking when I fell sits next to me, he generally doesn't talk and nobody seems to approach him unless they're trying to hit on him. I mean he is intimidating yet quite good looking. He has this short caramel hair that is constantly messy, his eyes are a bright green and have yellow in them. he's muscular and tall, really he might as well be a god he's so hot but so cocky that there's no point in liking him he has never dated anyone. I keep my nose buried in my work for the rest of the class but the boy who didn't bother to look hasn't left my mind. I glance at him as the teacher starts handing out the homework and he's already looking at me. We make eye contact and I smile, he narrows his eyes at me and frowns. To say I'm shocked is completely accurate. Most people smile back and then I don't have to talk to them. Ive never had someone not smile back I don't have a rule for this! I'll take that as a he doesn't want to be talked to either and I'll leave him alone for now. I will get him to smile at me though. I leave for lunch and meet up with Lizzy No one has said anything about my fall this morning so that's a good sign. I meet Lizzy at my locker and we walk into the cafeteria.
