Chapter 17
We all know the rule of pressing random buttons: you don’t hit the big red buttons. Instead, press as many nice green ones as you can, because green means good. Spotting a huge green button, I slammed my fist down onto it. Then one of those computerized chicks answered to my button-pressing. “Self destruct in 1 minute.” Holy frijoles! Why do they even freaking have those? True, they do help in some battle plans, but why is the million dollar question here.
To solve the problem at hand (self destruct and killing myself) I continued my button pushing frenzy. I could have cracked the code and learned the language, but I only had a minute, and cracking codes take time. Anything that I pressed did things that didn’t help me one bit, like the windshield wipers, and the missiles, and the cup holders. Nothing would help me get off this dang ship and back home. I had already pressed every button there was in sight, and I didn’t have time to look for any other buttons. Then I saw the bug red one that was covered with a big plastic box.
Did I have anything to lose? Yes. Was I crazy enough to do it? Actually, yes! I am!
“Here goes nothing.” I muttered to myself. “Self destruct in 5… 4… 3…” I slammed my fist down onto the button. “2...Self destruct canceled. Auto pilot on.” Are you freaking kidding me? If I wasn’t so sarcastic/awesome, I would actually congratulate the person who came up with that. Having your self destruct button as the green one and the red button as the auto pilot? Pure genius. I looked over at Ryan. “You stupid idiot.” I said to his face. He just gave me an eye roll in response. I looked out the windshield. At first I thought it was night, because of all the stars, but I am pretty sure that there should not be the planet Mars in front of me. I was in space. Then the shock wore off. They were taking me to mars as their captive. They were Martians.
