~ The Merge ~

The merging of The Pembroke and Mannington Mercy Hospitals was carried out not long after Nikolai Manning stepped down and handed the reigns of Mannington Mercy to Sasha. He cited his weak heart as the main reason and insisted that his only daughter took over.  On the other hand, The Pembroke has been growing and expanding in the capable hands of Fern and Jamie since Richard Pembroke's drowning almost 2 years ago.

From the perspective of outsiders who had witness the feud between the Pembrokes and the Mannings that lasted over 40 years, it represented a major step in the right direction.

Both families have been considered the pillars of the society and medical community.  It was a welcomed change to see the CEOs of Mannington Mercy and The Pembroke sitting alongside each other during functions and charity events.

The catalyst of this change was non other than the Co-CEO of The Pembroke and life partner to the two Chief of Staff of both private hospital chains, Jamie Carrington.

Her father, Leon Carrington had just retired and passed on Carrington LLP to his anointed successor a few months ago. Jamie had just turned 35 and Leon decided that she was finally mature enough to head the family law firm, especially she had also proven herself to be an excellent Chief of Administration and Co-CEO at The Pembroke for a couple of years.

With her increased responsibilities and the law firm demanding more of her time, Jamie wanted to return the management of The Pembroke back to Fern. However, her partner has grown so accustomed to having Jamie run the show while she concentrated on her medical speciality that she was a bit reluctant to take back her responsibilities and rightful inheritance. To Fern, they were one entity. She was in the opinion that what belonged to her belonged to Jamie too. It had totally slipped Fern's mind to check if her polyamorous partner had too much on her plate.

Plus, Fern thought they were working so well as a team, why would Jamie want to make the change and disrupt a well-oiled machine/process? Jamie, on the other hand, felt that the normally good natured and always supportive Fern was a bit grumpy lately but she didn't probe further as she was too busy with work to think twice about it.

Not long after, Jamie had more responsibilities piling up since Sasha too needed Jamie to help oversee the administration of her hospitals which she had just taken over from her father not too long ago. Jamie accepted the role because Sasha had suffered two miscarriages previously, carrying Jamie's babies. Jamie wanted her to rest and have more time for herself in order to recover better, both physically and emotionally.

In fact, all of Jamie's partners have not been able to carry  Jamie juniors to term. Sasha was the first to agree to undergo IVF to carry Jamie's baby. After her miscarriage, CJ tried and then followed by Erica. They too weren't successful. Knowing how much Jamie wanted kids and Leon wanted Jamie's child, Sasha tried again for the second time but to everyone's disappointment, she suffered another disheartening miscarriage. Due to that, Jamie was extra sensitive towards Sasha because the latter was distraught, upset and in pain that she lost another of her partner's child.

Even though Leon Carrington doesn't show it outwardly to his Princess and her partners, he was fast loosing hope that he might never get to set up a trust fund for Jamie's offspring mainly due to two reasons. He wasn't getting any younger and surrogacy via IVF hasn't worked for Jamie's partners. Anyway, Leon kept his thoughts to himself so as not to upset his youngest child.

"Hey baby, are you OK? Answer me??!! Don't you scare me, baby!" Jamie slowly opened her eyes, Erica's worried face, tears visibly gushing down her cheeks, was in front of her.  Jamie lifted both her hands and wiped away those tears.  "Calm down my Dreamy Blue Eyes, I'm OK." Jamie replied wearily.
