Genevieve struggled under the water, her small six year old hands reaching for something, anything. But the sea was vast and wide, and the only thing to touch in shallow water was the sand. Genevieve couldn't swim, and she had just been pushed underwater by a group of teenagers walking by. She started crying, but all it did was make her throat dry and full of water. Still underwater, Genevieve opened her eyes.
In the deep sea world, small, colorful fish swam by in unison. Soft light reflected through the water and onto the grainy, wet sand. As the tide falls and comes up again, the fish somehow managed to stay in place. Genevieve held in a little giggle. Besides her eyes stinging from opening them, she was having a fine experience. She knew that if you stayed underwater for too long, you'd die; but she couldn't get up to the surface. She didn't know how.
But suddenly the fish came close to her and her heart loosened. She closed her eyes and clenched her fist, and a feeling of warmth spread through her body. It was a small, controlled fire that spread from behind her eyes to her toes. And then a freezing cold feeling washed through her, sending shivers down her spine.
All of a sudden, Genevieve drew in a big breath and huge bubbles formed around her. In surprise, she lifted her hand to her mouth, and then brought the other one up.
In the lift of one hand, the water seemed to contract, leaving all the fish stranded on the sand. She ran from the shoreline, flicking her wrist back and the water deepening again.
As Erin looked down at her hands, she realized a wave with bubbles around it had been engraved into her hand.
In small cursive writing below the trident, "Oceania" was written.
And two inches from her feet was a glimmering golden trident with an aquamarine blue gems going all the way around the handle.
