Noelle could hear hail and sleet hitting the ceiling of her small house. She could feel the sleet weathering down the roof and getting closer from breaking through. In her small cottage, there was no way out. She was snowed in; Noelle was no match for this blizzard. The car wouldn't be safe, either: it would be dented and easily broken through by these sharp shards of ice.
She climbed underneath her small table, holding her hands above her head in defeat and surrender. And then, she heard hail hitting the floor and sleet hurdling through the roof. Noelle held in a scream of fear and pulled her hood closer to her head.
The shards were unrealistically big in this storm. She could hear them hitting the table she was under, and she got in position to make a run for the basement.
Noelle slid her feet out from under the table and pushed off, but she hesitated and looked up.
The hail came at her faster than you could even say "run."
Noelle gasped and contracted herself inward, crashing to the floor. She expected to feel a stinging or bleeding on her head, but she then slowly turned herself facing the ceiling.
Three inches from her face, bits of hail and sleet had stopped falling. It was like gravity was somehow forcing them upward, saying "no."
Noelle then quickly pushed herself out from underneath the shards, running through the basement door to safety.
And as Noelle looked down at her wrist, she saw a snowflake embedded in her skin with "snow" underneath.
