Chapter 2 Shelter From The Sickening Storm Of Loss.
In the Southern Kingdom, it was a place of darkness. It is where the more poor and dark/evil people lived. The kingdom was large but not as large as the Northern Kingdom.
The North was for the rich and powerful commoners and nobles. It was at least triple the size of the Southern.
It was a place of beauty and happiness. While the Southern was a place full of fear and solemn expressions.
The king of the South was Shadow The Hedgehog, his queen was Maria. In the North Sonic The Hedgehog and Sally Acorn, were the king and queen.
It wasn't unusual for hurricanes or storms in the Southern Kingdom. So the hurricane wasn't abnormal in any extraordinary way.
Inside the castle, Shadow and Maria were playing games to pass the time with each other.
Shadow loved Maria deeply and she loved him deeply also. With them ruling people actually smiled when they both walked by on the streets lifting the spirits of the people.
But the storm was keeping them inside their colossal castle.
A loud banging noise, coming from the front entrance, echoed throughout the castle's chambers.
Maria stood and started walking towards the door as her flowing blue dress moved behind her like a train.
Shadow followed her to the door. She slowly cracked the door open and looked around.
She then heard a small cry and looked down. There she saw bright green eyes staring back at her with tears flooding the big cheeks of the baby pink hedgehog.
She kneeled down to the small Sakura hedgehog and looked around to see if the mother was around. "Hello?" She tried talking loud for the rain was deafening loud. "Aww. Poor little girl. Abandoned." Maria said with a sad look as she looked up to her king.
"Bring her in. Let's warm her up and see if anyone comes back for her." He smiled at Maria warmly. Maria nodded and picked up the child out of the straw woven basket and slowly stood up.
The child snuggled her face into Maria's soft fur on her arms and chest. Maria walked back in leaving the basket and a wet note in the rain.
Shadow, about to walk in after her, glanced back at the tattered basket and saw a yellowed piece of paper soaked with ink seeping through the flimsy paper.
He knelt down and carefully unraveled the delicate note. It read..
Dear whom ever finds my daughter,
I'm not able to take care of my beloved child. I'm sorry for leaving my child without telling you in person. By the time she can walk or talk I will be dead. I will eternally be grateful if you could watch after her since I'm incapable of doing so. When she is 23 tell her the truth, don't tell her I abandoned her till then. Tell her when it's time that I always have and always will love her. I'm sorry again for this task. Please take good care of her.
Sincerely,
Skylar
He carefully, afraid to rip it, folded up the paper and pocketed the note. He walks inside to where Maria was playing with the infant.
"Maria.." He sighed. "I don't think this child's mother is coming back." He said with a sad expression.
"Well can we keep her and raise her as our own!?" She said with excitement running through her face.
"Are you sure about this my queen?" Shadow said with a hint of concern in his tone.
Maria rapidly nodded and squealed in excitement as she was delicately cradling the child in her small arms. "What should we name her?!?!"
