"B!" Sid yelled my name and I looked up, dazed and smiling. "I've called your name like ten hundred times- snap out of it."
Still no thought up response she laughed and shook my shoulders only making me smile more, "that boys got you bad."
I shrugged and began to doodle on my note book again, "I don't know- something about that date, I haven't been this happy since-"
"-Jessie." She finished for me. I tapped my pen lightly on the desk and nodded. "Is that bad?"
"I don't really know B, I think that's up to you to be honest." She crossed her arms and I remained quiet starring at what I had drawn. "So all the being free and experimenting- Hookah dates with random boys- formal with Blaine- is that all over now?"
I wasn't sure, on one hand I enjoyed my night thoroughly, Mikey was more than just interesting and mysterious, he made me feel okay, and even as suddenly as it came no one had that comforting presence since Jessie. I thought about Jessie, about how sweet he had always been- how he threw it all away too. Truth is I had no clue what was in store for Mikey and I, for all I knew he took out all the girls that came through his hookah bar, maybe he even cheated on his ex. I couldn't just assume he was a better guy and move on- that's how I got hurt in the first place. Straight from Brad to Jessie, this wouldn't be the same.
"No." I wanted to sound tougher than I felt. "I had fun and all but no guy can tie me down." Yes, that is it- I am a strong independent woman and this has nothing to do with me lying to myself about suppressed emotions.
Sid nodded, "so do you think you and Mikey will have sex?"
My chest constricted at her words, "I, uh." I padded at my chest awkwardly- suffocation wasn't far. "I haven't thought about it."
She studied my facial expressions than turned back to her note book, we'd been studying in the library for hours now and still hadn't accomplished much, we spent our time talking.
"How are you and Cam?" I asked, "Since you have so much room to call me soft and what not, Cunt."
"I never called you soft, but if the shoe fits." She looked up and winked, "we're fine, just fucking but also like to hang out, plus - I didn't just get out of two back to back relationships, I fucked half the Econ club first so even if I wanted to settle I'm allowed too."
She had a point, as always.
She watched me click my home button on my phone for the millionth time and sighed, "So when are you two seeing each other again?"
I flipped the small device over and laughed, hoping she didn't notice my obsessive checking, "I'm not sure..." my voice squeaked.
One raised eyebrow, "whys that."
"Well.." I flipped the phone over again to read the time, 6pm, and still nothing, "he hasn't texted me at all today."
"Did you text him?"
"What? No fucking way."
"Why not?"
I mentally kicked myself for walking into this conversation, "because I don't feel like it."
"Oh you mean because you forgot it was the twenty first century and that you're entitled to text a guy first even though you have a vagina?" Her lips were pursed and her eyes fire starring into mine.
"Uh, Yeah." I stood up and headed for the bathroom.
Sid remained at the table hissing at me quietly, "We didn't spend years fighting for voting rights for you to wait on him to talk to you first, B."
I stuck my hand behind my back and flashed my favorite finger at her. When I got to the tiled room I slumped against the locked door and pulled out my phone.
I really thought everything had gone so well.
My heart hurt to think of him brushing the date off as nothing.
I opened my contacts and dialed, holding the phone away from my nervous breaths. A sleepy voice answered, "Hello?"
"Hey," I felt odd speaking to him on the phone, soft. "Did I wake you?"
A small chuckle, "Yeah I was taking a nap but what's up?"
I took a deep breath and wondered what had possessed me to even call, "I was just wondering what type of thing I should wear at this formal you keep talking about."
Mikey shot up to his feet and came at me, "You fucking called Blaine?"
I shot up from his bed and stomped over to where he stood, putting my face into his- "Yeah? What did you expect when you didn't talk to me all fucking day."
"Lines work both ways, bitch." He scoffed.
I made the mistake of looking down from his turquoise eyes to his lips, "Yeah well it's usually the guy's job to text first."
"That's a real bullshit way to say you want every boy you meet to fall all over you."
"That's not true."
"Sure it is, they love you, you drop them." He shrugged like he'd pointed something obvious out.
I turned to grab my jacket, "You know what forget this, don't act like you know anything about me."
"Yes, go ahead, grab your jacket B." Mikey towered over me, "Just leave if that's what you want."
I turned back again looking at his lips and sighed, "I hate you."
He nodded, "Saying you aren't a tease would make you a liar," his hand brushed my chin softly. "I'm not dumb- I knew you were talking to other people- I just didn't realize you were fucking them."
"Fucking is such a harsh word." I mumbled, distracted by his touch.
"What do you call it then?"
I thought for a moment, "Almost penetration."
He snorted and covered his mouth, "Even when we do it?"
"Yes."
He smirked, "You're a bad liar."
"Just to you." I whispered.
He nodded, "I like it that way."
"So..the story?"
He leaned down closer to me, "Maybe in a second." His lips were on mine, soft- not hungry which was such a change. When he pulled away my head spin and I honestly forgot where I was at in the story.
"You want some mini corn dogs?" He stepped past me and out of the room.
I followed silently; he didn't need to ask to know my answer.
I walked over to the barstools and took a seat on the one stained a deep red from spilt Sangria. I watched him shuffle around in his freezer for the mini-dogs. He stood straight, his height always catching me off guard. "Are you mad?"
He Shrugged, "I don't really know. I kind of deserve it."
I snorted, "For what? Being an ass?"
He ruffled his hair than tossed our snack into the oven, "Not quite."
I paused, "Have you been sleeping around too?"
He wouldn't look straight at me but his eyes gave it away.
"We're terrible people." I groaned.
"Yes," He snickered, "We are."
"How many?"
"Five, Six, I couldn't even give you names."
"How reassuring." I felt sick.
He walked over and took the seat beside me. "Keep telling your story, B."
I nodded, my focus was not on Mikey anymore anyways- no need to get upset over something irrelevant.
"So yeah, I called Blaine. Not you."
He smiled.________________
