"You guys ready?" I looked between the two of them as I put on fingerless gloves. They were equally useful for extra grip and looking cool.

Simon was clearly nervous, but nodded anyways, "All ready."

"Same here." James grinned, probably because he was hopped up on adrenaline, "What about you, Scar?"

I grinned, "I was born ready."

I pushed the door open quietly, leading the way as we left our dorm for the last time.

James followed behind, then Simon. We tread lightly, but moved quickly. If any of the video cameras in the hall even worked, no one was watching them. But someone could be patrolling the halls, and we couldn't let them see us.

We reached the front doors, and I held my breath as I pushed open the door closest to us. I could swear someone was on the other side. I could see it in my mind, Pharlain with a gun trained on my temple, asking where I was going.

I let my breath go and threw the door open. No one was there.

The grounds were empty. The snow was still falling, and my footprint from earlier was barely visible. Maybe the first snowfall would be our lucky break.

"Come on, guys. Move quickly, and keep together. If anything happens remember the emergency plan and fucking run."

Neither of them said anything, but I knew they understood me. We weren't sneaking into the kitchen anymore, this was different.

We had agreed to conserve our energy as long as no one knew we were out there, so we forced ourselves to walk the distance between us and the fence.

I could feel their energy, and we remained deathly silent as we walked. I could only hear our footsteps and the wind that would soon be making snowdrifts in the yard.

Our pace was steady as we approached the corner of the grounds where the supposed garage was. Still didn't have proof, but I was going with my guts.

I hoped I was right.

Time stretched with every step as we kept walking. We stayed single file - probably because we were afraid to break the sense that we were confident about this all.

My heart beat senselessly against my ribcage, and I kept reminding myself of what was waiting somewhere on the other side of that fence.

"Scarlet!" Sam practically jumped into my arms, "I'm so happy to see you again!"

I laughed, lifting her up off the ground as I hugged her, "I've been gone for three days, did you really miss me that much?"

"Of course I did!" She planted a kiss on my lips before smiling again, "Max isn't good enough company."

"Fuck you, Sam." Max laughed as he walked up to us, "The only reason I missed you is because Sam is impossible for me to handle by myself."

"You say that like I'm a toddler."

"It's because you are."

Sam stuck her tongue out at him, then smiled at me and giggled, "You can put me down, Scar."

"Why should I?" I pulled her up and hung her over my shoulder like I was a firefighter, while she screamed and laughed, "You're as light as a feather."

"Put me down!" She screeched, hitting my back in frustration. I laughed and put her down.

"I sure know how to drive you wild, don't I?" I smirked at her.
