The school was in the middle of an awards ceremony on a foggy day mid fall.

"And the award for math goes too......" the students in the auditorium stomped their feet and patted their legs in anticipation.

Vice principal park stood there looking at the cue card in her hand.

She smiled and looked through the crowd for a familiar mop of dyed mint green hair.

He was sitting in the very back of the room, very last row, on the very end.

He was the closest person to the exit and also one of the only students not paying attention to the awards.

He was falling asleep with hus head rested on the chair infront of him which was actually an impressive skill.

Who would be able to sleep in the presence of thousands of screaming exited high schoolers? Him. That's who.

"Jamie blair wood!" he sat straight at the mention of his name and stared at the stage before stretching out his tried arms and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

He looked around, everyone was staring at him in disbelief. "Do i have to go up there?" he whispered to the guy next to him.

He nodded and Jamie stood up, the vice principal finally finding him and motioning to the stage with a painfully fake smile on her face.

"Please come to the stage"

he tottered down to the stage, finding everyone's eyes on him extremely uncomfortable but he just went with it.

He climbed the stage and one of the stage crew kids quickly ran to him and handed him his trophy before returning backstage.

It was the first grand prize of the assembly and it was weird that he got it seeing as he was a freshman and he didn't work as hard or participate in math as much as some of the older kids.

He did however have perfect scores in most of his classes, including math, and had the highest test scores. He looked at Ms. Park for an explanation of what he was supposed to say that never came.

She just stared forward smiling so he improvised.

"Uhhh...thanks for the award. Its probably going to prove to be useless live the rest of its life in my closet but nevertheless thank you." the room was quiet.

"Thank you mrs. Smith for forcing us to do brain numbing work this entire marking cycle and giving us six hour homework assignments everyday so that along with our other homework assignments and unfinished classwork, we couldn't develop a social life if we wanted to pass. Or attempt to form skills that would actually help us in the real world like job searching, or fixing relationships with our family and other. And Thank you Mrs. Watson for the whole math month thing where most of our grades dropped because you decided to make the entire school complete college level assignments. Thank you teachers. For making it so that only people who didn't care for or not have a life outside of school could succeed" he droned.
