Chapter 1
July 2008. I can't really say I remember it like yesterday, but how can I forget the day that I laid my eyes on him for the first time. But don't get it twisted, I'm straighter than a woman's hair on woman's day. It was a hot summer afternoon at the Oregon national park. Rachelle and Harvey, the ones I call my people, had taken me there for family fun day. Sounds corny right? I know. Well they thought it was a good idea because they are both scientists n they can get super busy. Nonetheless, this was our typical Sunday. You could say that we looked like any normal American family, but Rachelle's and Harvey's dirty blonde hair didn't really explain my ginger hair. Funny how people who'd pass us by would say how much I look like my dad and that I have my mother's eyes. When I reminisce about it now, it just makes me giggle. But one particular memory of that day is one that would haunt me for the next 9 years. Now, I was a really hyperactive child. I just couldn't stand still for five minutes. I'd always have to be on my toes, and this wasn't just me as a toddler. As a freshman in highschool, Harvey encouraged me to join the school's football team so I can put my hyperactivity to use. Now let's get back to the park. I was chasing the the wind and didn't really care where it led me. Rachelle and Harvey was trapped in a conversation with an elderly, Mrs. Patterson, who was also our neighbor. I was starting to run out of breath from all the senseless running around I was doing and finally decided to just drop in the grass, face up and I closed my eyes as it looked straight in the sun. I felt at peace, but was breathing heavily. For a moment it seemed like everything just started to slow down as I catch my breath. I could hear the grass singing in my ears as the wind blew. My parents dream had come true, I was still for five minutes. I could no longer feel the sun in my face so I hastily opened my eyes. And the reason as to why I hadn't got sun burnt was standing right in front of me. Let's just say if he was with Rachelle instead of Harvey, it would definitely explain my ginger hair. He was dressed in all black and he kept eye contact with me at all times. The first and only phrase to come out of his mouth was " It's been 3 years but I've finally found you". Before he could say anything else, he immediately loses eye contact with me and looks up to his left. As I turn my head to look at where he was gazing and turned back, he was nowhere to be found. Seconds later my parents came running towards me, in the exact same direction he was looking. It's like he knew they were coming before he could even see them. Harvey was angry because I ran off like that, but I bet he'd be proud to have seen me at bay for that past 5 minutes. I never spoke a word about what happened. Not even after I found out that I was adopted a few years later.
