After several weeks on the compound, Harley felt that she had found a comfortable place at Negan's side. While the man continually racked up wives at the drop of a hat, he kept them holed up in the compound building; with Negan leaving her to parade around like the pet she was, Harley began to feel special.
Harley created her own position as henchwoman, willing to be sweet and conniving all while able to get her hands dirty. Negan could only appreciate her.
On this particular morning, Harley was woken quickly by a bell ringing outside of the RV. She looked to Negan, who was struggling to roll out of bed, before bolting to get dressed.
Stepping affirmatively into her boots, Harley rushed outside, barely pulling her loose hair from her shirt neck as she searched the grounds for an answer.
Negan's men all stood, circled around the RV, guns in hand as they stood at attention.
"What's going on?" Harley asked quickly, her eyes scanning around the area but not finding any Walkers as threats.
"Peach..." Negan started, still in the RV as he gripped the doorframe and leaned out.
"In a second..." She waved off her companion as she brandished her gun from her thigh holster.
"Hun..." Negan tried again, shaking his head and scoffing at Harley's determination.
"Negan, I said in a second." Harley stated firmly, clearly not adding up the hoax alarm and the men in no immediate action. Her eyes peered to each of the men, all of them staring right back at her with a stoic, unfazed expression.
"What?" She shrugged as she looked to Joey, who barely nodded towards Negan.
The gruff man, always known for grand entrances and gestures, grabbed his bat and hit the roof of the RV. He called out Harley's name, "Harleen Quinnzel, you have stolen something from me!"
Negan took a grand step out of the RV as Harley's eyes widened in fear; she took a timid step back as the man held Lucille out to point at her.
"You sneaky girl. I didn't think you'd do it, but you went and did it." He chuckled evilly, narrowing his eyes at the blonde who was flustering.
"N-Negan, I swear. I didn't take anything." Harley, for once, felt what it was like to be wrongly accused; she held her hands up in defense, "Honest."
She couldn't help the rush of fear go through her with a deafening jolt. As Negan neared, he set Lucille over his shoulder, smiling down at the now petrified girl before him.
"Oh, yes you did. Done stole it right from me. You don't have to deny it anymore."
Harley was tired of the man beating around the bush as he gripped her chin, "If you're so sure I stole something, why not tell me what it was?"
Negan chuckled again, his twisted smile turning more genuine in elation; he had to turn away slightly to scoff before turning back to Harley. "You stole my heart, Harley."
Harley pursed her lips together as she scoffed at the man before her; she rested her fists on Negan's waist before jabbing him quickly in the side, "You dumb lug! You had me worried."
The man playfully winced, "That ain't the last of it...."
She raised her brows in wait as Negan backed away slightly; he handed one of his men his bat then pat his jean pockets in search of something. Negan then sank to one knee as he pulled out a simple platinum band, nothing extravagant to be found within miles of the wasteland.
Harley tried to back away, only to be held up by a couple of Negan's men, "W-what is that?"
Gruffly, Negan cleared his throat, "Now, this all might sound a bit cheesy, but you complete me. Your crazy...goddamn it if it don't compliment my authority. Now...we might not know everythin' about each other, and hell, I dunno if you're gonna shiv me in my sleep, but that's what I like the most about you." He licked his lips, pinching the ring in one hand as his other took Harley's, "Damned I'll be if I let an opportunity like you slip from my fingers, so I gotta rush on it."
Now it was Negan who felt fear, as if he had given Harley his trusted Lucille and pleaded her not to swing. He felt his throat go parched, unsure of exactly what he'd do if she rejected him.
Harley, flabbergasted, stammered incoherently as she stared down the man with a proposal. She in no way wanted to deny him, she just couldn't get the words out.
"Y-yes." She finally choked out, staring past the ring to the man behind it. Harley folded her free hand against her chest as she nodded, "Yes, yes, yes, Negan. I will marry you."
Negan almost didn't hear her, his hearing cutting out for the split second his heart pounded loudly. He watched as Harley started to tear up, smiling, which caused his lips to twitch the same.
"I'm sorry, so was that a yes?" He asked, almost teasing Harley but he was completely serious.
Harley, completely elated, nodded eagerly, "Yes, yes, you big lug!" Her hand shook in Negan's as the man was brought back to the moment, slipping the platinum ring on her finger.
She playfully shoved the man in his shoulder as she stared at the simply band around her finger, "Negan...oh, I love it."
"I-I love you, peach." He muttered. Harley giggled nervously, leaping into the man and tackling him to the ground. Her lips marked Negan with kisses across his face while his men held back polite clapping.
As he got to his feet, Negan hoisted Harley over his shoulder, "Alright, get back to it. No one says a word of this to the other girls. They already think I'm choosing favorites."
Harley sat up against Negan's back, "Because he is." He chuckled, shifted Harley to rest back against his shoulder, "You hush."
"Can't help it if it's true." She tittered, looking to her ring again with blushing cheeks.
