Tina and Queenie had insisted that Octavia should stay the night, and so she was asked to share the spare room with Jacob and Newt. Tina had already drawn up a bed for her out of the air and so it seemed she had no choice in the matter. Octavia sat atop her bed looking around in an interested manner, her eyes stopped on Newt as he was curled up under the covers of his bed staring at the wall, not making a sound. Jacob had taken the time to look at a book on the bedside table, he was fascinated with how the pictures moved and stared at it transfixed for a while.
It was only seven, and the city smoke had already helped make the night fall dark much quicker. After a few minutes of silence Jacob had then begun to stare at Octavia, she tried to ignore it for a while but eventually she found it weird and addressed him. "Yes?" she implied quietly.
"So, you can change how you look?" He asked, clearly surprised by the words escaping his mouth.
"Um, yes." She replied softly and Newt seemed to cough at her statement.
"Can you show me?" The No-Maj asked curiously.
Octavia crinkled up her nose and furrowed her eyebrows with concentration, she had never manipulated her appearance so that she was a man. Eventually she had changed, and an identical copy of Jacob was staring at him. Octavia winked and then returned to her normal state, with a small applause from Jacob, again Newt coughed. Octavia was about to ask if he was okay, or if he was trying to convey other intentions when Tina had opened up the door carrying a tray.
"Um, we made you hot coco." She said, taking in the strangeness of the room, specifically Newt.
She handed a cup to both Octavia and Jacob before offering one to Newt. However, he didn't move, nor even blink and Tina placed the cup on the bedside table, and walked out of the room confused. Taking a sip, Octavia knew that Queenie had made this, and Jacob sighed with pleasure. Newt however, jumped out of his bed, fully dressed and placed his case on the floor. Opening it he began to step inside, when only his head remained visible he turned to Octavia, and whispered very quietly.
"We need to um... We need to talk." He then vanished, but his arm soon reappeared summoning Jacob into the case as well.
Octavia placed her cup on the floor, Jacob protesting at abandoning the girls and their coco, and soon Octavia too had vanished into the case. She had only just made her way inside and was awestruck at the shed she was now in. Newt had hung up his overcoat and was busying himself with things on his workbench. Then he turned around and faced Octavia, who flinched at his sudden movement.
"What was the real reason you didn't tell me?" He asked, hiding beneath his fringe.
Octavia sighed, she would have to tell him the reason one day, but would it only make it more awkward between them. She had left him out the front of the headmasters office having just kissed him, when she knew that he only had feelings for Leta. To be honest with herself, there was still a soft spot for him, but she had moved on thinking they'd never meet again. She didn't even bother trying to write to him. What was more, she could see the face of Leta Lestrange staring out from behind him, he had kept a photo of Leta and not her. Octavia was put into her place.
"You didn't need to know. You had always seen me, like this, I was just more comfortable with you so I didn't hide... You were like me, passionate about magical creatures and you never, never teased me. So... So, I don't know, if you never saw me change then there was no need to tell you. Only the professors knew anyway..." she said slowly, hiding beneath her own fringe and added, "I'm sorry..." before they were interrupted by Jacob crashing down.
The two quickly jumped apart, the shed was quite small, and Newt hastened to act busy at his workbench. Octavia had brushed her hair out of her face and pretended to stare around intrigued, as though for the first time, at the inside of Newt's case. Jacob too was surprised and looked about curiously and filled with wonder at all this magic. Even Octavia had to admit she was surprised, his magic had greatly improved, but it wouldn't be until she stepped out of the shed into the true spectacle of Newt's magic would she be swept away by the sight of magical beasts.
