For the rest of the week, I continued to attend my classes and ride Leo on my own while the other riders were prepping for the show. Mrs. Banks sent an email on Monday evening that she would post the results on her office door Friday morning. It was Thursday night tonight!
She had also said that she wanted us to attend the show to see how we acted as a team at shows, and just to experience being part of Timber Creek's equestrian team. Even though I wasn't riding in it, I was still excited to go and watch Carly and Macy.
As I sat at my desk with my damp hair air drying, I tried to focus on reading chapter 1 of our civics textbook, but I just couldn't do it! I could only think about which team I was going to make. I would be okay with intermediate, but I'm reaalllllly hoping for advanced!
I finally finished the chapter, and shut my heavy text book. I shoved it back in my back pack, then grabbed my book for English. Right now, we were starting with reading short stories, and we were reading The Most Dangerous Game. I had read it in eighth grade, but we really went in deep with all of the literary terms and meanings of the text. We had a huge packet to complete by next Friday on it, and I was getting a head start.
I got half way done with it, then stuck it back in my binder. It was 9:55, and my eye lids were beginning to droop. I looked at the door. Hailey was out right now, she said she was going to the library with some friends. She should be back soon though; lights are supposed to be out by 10:30.
My phone began to ring, and I looked at the caller ID. Carly. I grinned, then picked it up. "Hey Carly!" I said into the phone.
"Hey Sabrina, are you nervous for the results?" she asked.
"Yeah, I doubt I'll be sleeping tonight," I said, only half joking.
"I'm sure you did great!" she said.
Oooh, this was the perfect time to ask about the ring mishap before tryouts. I had been so relieved that the tryouts were over that I had forgotten all about asking her what happened!
"So while I remember, what happened before tryouts with the rings?" I asked.
"Oh yeah! I forgot about that. Well, I was coming to the stable to wish you good luck before the tryouts, but you were already out of the cross ties. I saw Rachel, Beth, and Ally standing by the ring, laughing and holding something. I looked at what it was, and it was the flier that they must have put on the door," she said.
"So it was them!" I blurted out. "Sorry, I was thinking it was them when I had gotten into the indoor ring," I explained.
"So then, I went to go look for you, but I didn't know which arena you'd be in. Luckily, Rachel dropped the flier as they were leaving, so I grabbed it and went to the outdoor ring to get you," Carly finished.
"Wow, thank you so so sooooooooooooo much for coming and getting me! I thought I was the only new rider for a while," I said, laughing at how stupid I was.
"No problem, but remember to watch out for the Clique-they play dirty," she said with a warning tone.
"I know, that's what Hailey said. It's payback for Rachel falling in the manure," I grumbled. Hopefully this was enough revenge, but now that I think about what would happen if Carly hadn't gotten me...the results were bad!
"I just thought of this, but what if you hadn't gotten me? What would've happened?" I said.
"Mrs. Banks probably wouldn't have let you tryout," Carly said. We were quiet for a minute.
"I would've been completely cut. Wow. I can't believe they went that far," I said, still processing it. This really made sense now.
We chatted for a few minutes longer, but then we hung up. Hailey got back, but we both went to bed soon after that.
