"And who might you be?" My father suddenly asked skeptically as he slowly stepped around Marko and squared off his shoulders.
I fought back the urge to roll my eyes and opened my mouth to protest until my mother began tapping her chin, signaling she was in deep thought...
...and I was in deep shit. Now what in the hell could she be thinking about?
"You must be Michelle's father?" Jonathan suddenly asked, snapping my attention back to the other deep shit I was currently in. "Though the circumstance is far from pleasurable it's a pleasure to finally meet you Mr. Brown."
I watched as Jonathan neared my father and extended a hand for him to shake as my father rose a questioning brow but shook Jonathan's hand firmly nonetheless.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too, son but you still haven't told us who you are."
Oh crap. Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap.
This was the moment of truth.
This was the moment I had once thought of and never fathomed again.
This was the moment I had tried so desperately to avoid.
Oh crap, oh crap, oh shit. What to do?
I glanced over at Jonathan with pleading eyes and once he caught my gaze I knew that shit was about to hit the fan - his expression said it all.
"Well sir, I'm Michelle's-"
"Really good friend from work!" I shouted a little too quickly, cutting Jonathan off mid-sentence.
I dared a glance at him afterwards and instantly regretted it.
Well damn. Now he was pissed off.
However I knew what he was fixing to say for I saw the flicker of mischief in his eyes in that brief moment we caught each other's gazes and I just couldn't let him say it.
At least not now - not like this, and especially not since we haven't even talked about it amongst ourselves yet.
"A really good friend, eh?" My father questioned as he glanced between Jonathan and I, our eyes still locked in a heated gaze. "Then where were you when Michelle was getting thrown around like a rag doll by her ex, hm?"
Oh shit. Why dad? Why?
"I was...I had to..." Jonathan began to mutter until my mother suddenly snapped her fingers and pointed an accusatory finger at him.
"You." She hissed aloud.
Aw hell...
"Me?" Jonathan asked sheepishly as a hand flew to his chest.
"Yes, you you bastard." My mother snapped as she slinked near Jonathan with the intensity of a predator stalking its prey. "You're the Jonathan that got my Chelly fired, aren't you?"
Well fuck me sideways. So that's what she was thinking about all this time...
Ugh.
"Now Mrs. Brown I can ex-" Jonathan began to protest as he held up a hand and took a step back from my mother.
"Don't 'Mrs. Brown' me you son of a bitch." My mother growled as she made her way between the foot of the bed and Jonathan.
"Mother!" I finally protested after having heard enough. "Leave him alone - it was an accident!"
"Accident my ass!" My mother screeched as she whipped around and glared at me.
