Detective Rogers and some deputy officers were in our class standing near the body and investigating. Meanwhile, me and Brian began our own investigation.
"What are we searching for?", Brian said as we got outside the school.
"A broken window", I said walking around the building.
Our classroom's window faced outside of school. We found the window but the officers were still inside. Our class was on the ground floor so if we went near the window they would be able see us. I asked Brian to stall the officials. "It'll be only for seconds, you have to be quick!", he said. So I took my position right beside the window ready to look for what I thought should be there. He went back in and I took a peak. He smashed through the novelty barriers and everyone turned around and looked at him. I rushed to the place from where the window was broken. Bingo! I got what I was looking for, a half brick lying on the grass. I took a peak and Brian was talking to them frantically. I signaled him and quickly rushed to the wall again. My heart was beating fast. I stuck to the wall for sometime until Brian was back. We left the place.
"How'd you stall them?", I asked while walking away from the school.
"I rushed inside and told them that I've met her and that she was my girlfriend and I'm very disconcerted by this", Brian said.
"So, did you find what you were looking for?", he continued.
"Affirmative", I said smirking.
"What was it?",
"A brick",
"A brick!? You're telling me, I went through all that trouble stalling law officers and that Floyd Mayweather just so you can find a damn piece of brick? Heck, you could have gone to a construction site!!", Brian said angrily.
"That's Detective Roger Smith fo' you son", I said mimicking Det. Roger.
"If you don't give me a darn good explanation for this, I swear to god the next murder will be YOURS".
"The window was broken from inside", I said.
"What?"
"There wasn't any blood on Zoey's body that means she was killed beforehand right?",
"I.....guess..", Brian said.
"The broken glass was just to confuse us, the window was broken from inside",
"Wait.. Wait how could you say that", Brian said.
"The brick was right outside the broken window with shattered glass over the leaves and we have a grassy field outside of our class. So that wasn't any coincidence. If the window was broken from outside the brick and pieces of glass would have fell in the classroom. But there was not any brick or any type of thing that'll break the window".
"Get to the point Matthew 'Holmes'?", he said.
"I feel that Zoey was killed and concealed in our classroom by the killer beforehand. He rang the emergency bell and waited for everyone to leave the classroom and go to the school field. After that he went inside and threw a brick out the window. Because of the relatively loud sound of the bell, probably no one heard the window breaking. He then took the body from where he hidden it and put it on show right beside the broken window so that no one would consider this as an inside job. For the presence of brick, we just have to consider the possibility that the killer had brought it with him".
"But why would he do that?", Brian asked.
"Stage show", I said. "Killers like these tends to leave messages. They like to play with our minds. Making us solve their petty little riddles".
"What'd he wanted to conceive?",
"That he can reach anyone",
We stopped. There was a petrified silence among us.
"Wow, you really have..........varied your brain to things", Brian said.
"And you have limited yours to numbers" I said
"Brian", I said. "I feel like you should know since you helped me a lot. By the way this is going, I'm pretty sure that he's gonna hurt more people. It could be me or you or anyone who is close to us. Just stay safe and alerted", I finished and Brian was smiling looking down. He wasn't afraid, even a bit.
"You sure can talk a lot when you talk", Brian said smiling and we parted our ways to home.
The sun was half below the horizon painting the sky above red. The twilight hours weren't seem so good now. The day was almost over and every beat of our hearts was filled fear. The murder of Zoey left an impression behind that none of us are safe. And I somehow knew, that this was only going to be the start of murders of this sadistic clown.
