Day 1

What would you do if you had exactly one month to live? Who would you spend that month with? Difficult? I thought so. Now this isn't some what would you do question. This is my life.

I'm Mary Kate, and I have a total of 31 days to live. Well, give or take... obviously they cannot be 100% sure when I'll die. Why am I dying in a month? Cancer. Breast cancer, to be specific. I took the news about my cancer hard at first, but I realized that I was too far into the cancer to be cured and that I should just live my life the best I can, and the happiest I can.

I don't have too much family, and I don't talk to the ones I do have. They never supported me in wanting to be a business owner when I went to college and we haven't spoken sense. Do I miss them? Yeah, sometimes, but it's okay. It's not like they were good parents when we did communicate. I'm in New Jersey now, and I own a little coffee shop on 4th Street. Personally, I think owning a coffee shop at 20 is pretty good but I'm a little biased I guess.

You would think I would be off doing as many things on my bucket list as I can, but instead I work in my little coffee shop and I will until I pass. I have one person working for me, her name is Kristin. She's a sweetheart and we met at an interview. We both didn't get the job and from then on it's history. She knows about the cancer, but also knows that it's not gonna change the way I look at anyone or anything. It's not like you go to 20 different countries and get married because you get the flu right? Same thing with cancer if you ask me. I'm gonna sit right here taking orders and cleaning tables until I close my shop everyday till I'm gone.

This particular day was a little interesting.  So far I've had a high school drama club in here, two struggling artists, and four workaholics looking for wifi. Then, there was something strange. Two boys that looked different in every way but their face and hair color. They were obviously twins. They walked up to the counter and looked up at the menu. "Hello, what can I get you two?" I said. "Umm two lattes." The shorter-haired one said. "Alright, your total is $6.79." I said and the same one that ordered handed me his debit card. I scanned in, rang him up, and walked over to the coffee machine. "Ethan stop zoning out." I heard the one that payed say. He snapped his fingers. I laughed and looked over to see Ethan watching Kris wipe off tables.

I finished the lattes and walked them over to the two customers that looked alike. "Ooooo it looks good!" The one that was apparently Ethan said. I smiled and looked over to the other one. "Is it good?" I said. "Eh, could be better." He said. "Oh I'm sorry I can make it again if you'd like. Or maybe some free cake?" I said trying to lighten the situation. "Tell me, love. Do you offer cake to every person that is not a huge fan of your coffee?" He said looking at me. "No, no." I said awkwardly. "Well good, because the coffee is incredible. Don't offer cake to someone that doesn't appreciate good coffee." He said winking at me. "Oh okay, will do umm-?" I said low-key wondering his name. "If you're wondering what my name is, it's Grayson." Grayson said smiling. "Alright, mine is Mary Kate." I said and walked away to help another customer.

After a while the two boys left. it got boring from then on. There was nothing to do but serve people coffee and grind coffee beans (now don't get me wrong grinding coffee beans is high quality entertainment).

It hit 9:00 PM and it was time to clock out and close for the night. Kristin and I live together in an apartment so we work till the same time unless there is a special reason not to.

We arrived to the apartment and walked inside and immediately turned on Friends. I honestly love that show and have seen every season at least 5 times. I like that the coffee shop Central Perk is a main setting in the show and I own a coffee shop. Makes me feel closer to Rachel Green and let's be real, everybody would love being Rachel Green.

I ran to my bedroom and walked to the closet to put on PJ's. My room is honestly really gorgeous. I used to be really into furniture and decor design so I know a whole lot about making rooms the best they can be. I have white lights pretty much all over my room. I settled on some fuzzy pajama bottoms and a sports bra and grabbed my blanket. I walked back to the living room and sat on the couch next to Kristin. She was already asleep so it wasn't too difficult to get her to not talk while the show was playing. That's a major pet peeve of mine.
