KRISTIN'S POV
Something is up with Mary Kate. She was smiling all night last night. Heck, she wants to go to the cafe and we're always closed on Sundays. I get that she loves the cafe but this is odd. The woman has cancer for goodness sakes and she wants to work everyday of the week. That practically makes her borderline insane. Now don't get me wrong, I hope that Ethan kid comes back soon, but I'm not bringing my butt to work on a Sunday.
I walked into the kitchen and Mary Kate was grabbing a granola bar. She was in athletic clothing. "What are you doing?" I said looking at her. "Going for a run." She said running out the door. "Bye to you too." I said.
MARY KATE'S POV
I'm gonna go open for an hour or so, why? I feel like it. The cafe is about a 15 minute run so I get going. I pass Larry the doorman and ran down Main Street. "Mami looking fine." I heard some man say. "Sorry you're confused, I'm not preggo." I said laughing and running away. A few minutes later I was in front of the cafe. I saw Grayson sitting outside of it at our little table. "Need help with something?" I said panting. "No, I was hoping you would come by even though you're closed.... and here you are." He said standing up and shaking my hand. "Oh okay, well I apologize for being sweaty, I ran." I said wiping sweat off my forehead. "Haha it's quite alright, you're cute." He said laughing. "Yes and you're hot as the sun." I said with a sarcastic tone. "Ah fluent in sarcasm? I see how it is. I hate to say it, but the costumer is always right." He said crossing his arms. "That's true, but you make an exception." I said copying his motion of crossing arms. "Can't you just let me tell you you're cute?" He said looking into my eyes. I nodded. "Thanks." I said smiling. He nodded and pushed my hair behind my ear.
"I'll only be open for an hour." I said letting him into the cafe. "That's fine." He said looking at me and walking over to the counter. I made him a pastry before he even asked. "Here's this." I said handing him his pastry. "You forgot something." He said laughing. "Wha- what?" I said looking confused. "I need your number as well." He said taking a bite out of his pastry. "Oh?" I said laughing. "Oh of course. I need to take you out somewhere." He said acting like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Me go out with him? "What if I said no?" I said. "Well I would have to convince you otherwise." "I'm hard to convince." I said moving closer to him. "Well that's a problem." He said moving closer. "It'll be hard to convince me I tell ya." I said moving closer. We were inches away. "I think I'll manage." He said so close that it was a whisper. I leaned in and he backed away. "We'll have to go on a date first love."
I nodded.
GRAYSON'S POV
I need her.
MARY KATE'S POV
Ohhhh my gosh I need to kiss this boy. I need him. I smiled.
GRAYSON'S POV
"Is that a yes?" I said looking at her. "That was a sure." She said slipping away from me. She walked over to her phone and picked it up. "Kristin, I'm busy tonight." She said into the phone. I smiled.
She put the phone down and asked "What are we doing tonight?"
Crap. What are we doing tonight?
"That's for you to find out. I'll be here at 8." I said and walked out of the cafe.
I was walking down the street and I called Ethan. "Eth I need help." He yawned and said "With what? Where are you?" I laughed and said "A date. I'm walking down 4th Street." "My boy has himself a date? How and who?" Ethan said sounding curious. "Cafe girl. I asked, duh." How else does he think I got a date? "Just take her somewhere special." Ethan said. Somewhere special? WHERE?
--AFTER A FEW HOURS--
I looked at the time on my phone and realized I needed to head to the cafe. I pulled up and walked inside. Mary Kate was sitting down at a booth and she looked up and smiled. She's kinda cute. She changed into shorts and a sweatshirt, which was fine considering the place we're heading to. I grabbed her hand and walked her to my truck. I opened the door and she jumped in. "So mysterious." She said as I started up the truck. I pulled into the hospital parking lot and she looked at me really confused. "Have you ever volunteered here?" I said looking at her. "No." She said smiling. "New experiences are good."
We walked into the elevator and I clicked on the children's floor. "They're having volunteer day today, so I figured this would be cool." I said while I waited for the elevator to reach the right floor.
MARY KATE'S POV
He doesn't know, don't hold it against him. This hospital brings bad memories. Things I wish to forget. "I'll head to the bathroom. Wait for me in the waiting room please." I said and Grayson nodded. I walked into the bathroom and put some water on my face. I realize now, I'm never gonna have children. I'll never get married. I'll never grow old with someone. I'll never meet my soul mate.
I walked out of the bathroom and went over to Grayson. "Ready to hang with the coolest kids in town?" He said grabbing my hand. "Yeah." I said pretending to be happy. He led me to a room and he opened the door. It was full of little children playing with toys. They were all connected to different machines yet they all looked so happy. A little girl walked up to me. Grayson went over to a few little boys. "Hello." She said in a sweet little voice. "Hey sweetheart." I said sitting down at her level. "Is that your boyfriend?" She whispered and pointed to Grayson. "Haha no no, just a friend." I said laughing. "Well you are pretty and he is cute. You're meant to be princess and prince." She said giggling. "Thank you." I said smiling. "My name is Aleah. I heard my mommy say that I'm gonna go to heaven soon!" She said smiling. My heart broke. This sweet little angel. "Me too sweetie." I whispered to her. "Yay! We'll be there together! Heaven buddies!" The little girl yelled. I saw Grayson look at me kinda weird. I think he heard.
He walked over to me. "What do you mean?"
