Trien's POV
When i get into the locker rooms, i quickly switch into some shorts and a tank shirt that will allow my wings to move freely.
When i go and join the group, our coach started explaining the lesson. Mr. Greydale is the guys flying coach. And while he is very smart, his lesson plans seem to drone on. I'm saved from having to listen to his lecture because the girls flying lessons are about to start.
I see Mireya line up next to someone and they are whispering to each other. When Ms. Juileisa counted down, the faeries flew. But, Mireya was in front of everyone and the gap was only growing. She was going as fast as any normal Fae. But she didn't look to be trying. Bored. That's what she was. Mireya was trying to hold herself back and you could tell.
And then she crossed the finish line.
And then she was going too fast.
And then she was not in control anymore.
And slowly, ever so slowly, it seemed she was falling.
Her eyes were closed, hiding the green beneath them. The light was glinting off of her light brown wings. Her black hair spreading around her like ink in the air. And no one was moving. Her friend was trying to reach her, but you could tell. She'd be too late.
Before i could blink, my wings were out and i had her in my arms.
Before i could blink, i realized my mistake.
Before i could blink, i realized i'd saved a Faerie.
Before i could blink, i realized every one could see my wings. And there was nothing i could do.
I landed softly on the ground and passed her onto her friend. Her friend had gratitude in her eyes and thanked me before rushing to take her to the healer. I turned around and left my wings out. I straightened my back. Ashamed. I would not allow myself to feel it. While others would make fun of me, i would not regret it. I save Faeries. I save Fae. I save everyone who needs it.
Everyone still had their eyes on me. Or, more specifically, my wings. I've never found any, Fae or Faerie alike, with wings quite like mine. Their wings have feathers. Mine are bare. My wings are paper thin and similar to a bat. And they're black and have a sparkle type complex like that of gold in sunlight.
The coaches gain everyone's attention again an start the flying back up. No one else falls from the sky. When it is my turn to fly, i decide to participate. I never participated in front of the class before. When i line up, i focus on everything i've learned. When Mr. Greydale starts the countdown, i get into position. when he says go, I'm off. I easily coast to in front of them. I flap when i need to but i conserve my energy and i reach the finish line first and i easily coast down. When i touch down, the other guys are passing the finish line.
