...they will be after us soon. We need to leave now," Drake said. "They won't be far away. They already got to my sister. We need to split up."
He turned to the group.
"Bellamy, take the Pack and get out of here. We'll met at the rendezvous point." Bellamy nodded and headed to the door, motioning for his soldiers to follow. As Drake turned back to Shaina an explosion shook the building. Lights flickered as debris rained down. Shaina dropped to her knees as Drake's body shielded her from pieces of falling ceiling. Cries of pain and terror rang through out the hospital. Footsteps pounded down tile corridors as doctors rushed to move their patients to safety. When the dust settled Drake rose, helping Shaina to her feet.
"They've found us," he said. "We need to go."
Drake took Shaina's hand and rushed toward the back door. They ran down dimly light corridors, dust coating everything, chunks of the building littering the floor. "Drake!" Shaina said, pulling on his hand.
He stopped and turned back to her, his face mix of determination and fear. "We have to keep moving," he said.
"Why can't I remember? I don't know what we are running from or why?" Drake looked around, his eagerness to leave radiating off of him.
"This is not the time. You just have to trust me."
"Please."
Shaina looked at him, all her confusion, fear, panic playing across her face. Sighing, Drake took one step towards her and held her face in her hands. "I'm sorry," he said, "but this is going to hurt. It's the only way to jump start your memories."
In one shift movement Drake hit his forehead against Shaina's. Images of worlds, scenes and people, Shaina had never known, flooded her mind. She gasped and staggered back. Drake caught her arm, steadying her.
Shaina blinked, as the memories slid back into the empty spots in her mind. Her gaze moved to Drake and his face changed. No longer was it the face of someone she had met only hours before. It was now the face of someone she loved. Cared for. Would die for. Shaina wrapped her arms around Drake's neck and kissed him. Drake pulled her close, his strong arms encasing her. Drake's lips were so familiar. The softness. The warmth that sent every nerve in Shaina's body buzzing. They pulled away.
"Rusts and ruin, I've missed you!" Drake said.
Gun shots shattered their moment. Instantly, the two of them broke apart and raced to the exit. They rounded the corner and skidded to a halt. The exit was crushed under a pile of debris. Drake looked to Shaina. Wordlessly, they spun around and headed back the way they had come. Drake grabbed Shaina's hand and pulled her down a side corridor. Shaina's heart beat thundered in her ears. They halted again as the corridor was a dead end. They stood there for a long moment. Shots cracked in the echoing hallways. Drake pulled Shaina into a room and slammed the door shut. Around them lockers lined the walls.
"We need to fight," Drake said. "It's our only way out. I don't know how many are out there, but if it's just a search party then there's no more than ten. Can you do it?" Shaina nodded.
"See if you can find any weapons. I'm getting out of this ridiculous thing," she said. Drake smirked as he started searching.
"Pity, I thought you looked hot," he said.
Ignoring the comment, Shaina moved to the lockers and yanked the first one open. Hurriedly, she grabbed the pair of jeans and pulled them on. She ripped her dress off. It tumbled to the floor, dirty and coated in gray. Drake looked over and froze.
"Keep searching!" Shaina said, not evening looking over. Shaina pulled on the shirt and looked for a pair of shoes. None of the lockers had any.
"Find anything?" Shaina asked, walking over to Drake. He handed her a scalpel. Shaina took it and gripped the handle.
"It's better than nothing. Let's go," she said. Shaina moved to the door, but Drake stopped her. He slipped one arm around her waist and kissed her.
"To the end of time, I will love you," he said. Shaina smiled at the familiar phrase.
"To the edge of the world, I will follow you."
They shared one last look. Then, with a wordless agreement they opened the door, and...
