St. Charleston's Academy for Boy's
Kellan's POV
Monday came around faster than I had been expecting it to and before I knew it I was standing at the large front steps of St. Charleston's Academy for Boys. I looked up at the aged yet beautiful Cathedral, the stone walls still standing strong even after years and years of weathering from mother nature. The tall towers and stained glass windows had been renewed, too much of a safety hazard for kids to be around if they were crumbling and cracking just from a gust of wind I supposed.
I'd looked up the school yesterday and found out that it had been built in the late seventeen hundreds and had only been open as a school for these past three years after some much needed remodeling. The last time the doors had been open was back in 1898. They'd kept the outside exterior of the building exactly as it had been all those years ago, with the exception of strengthening the towers and windows, along with renewing the lawn and the gate that wrapped around the perimeter of the school. They completely re-did the inside to resemble an actually school though, along with some additions to put more classes and gyms and things like such.
I climbed the stairs slowly, still taking in everything as well as trying to buy myself time to simply calm down - my heart was racing and my breathing was labored, excitement and fear mingling deep in my chest and causing me to freak out. I was so excited to meet people other than my parents and doctors yet I was so, so scared to be thrown into this new world, this world that I've lived in before yet have no memory of. It was frightening.
The front entrance was much like that of a mansion, a wide and open ballroom - like space with a crystal chandelier hanging off the ceiling in the middle, brightening up the room with it's tinkling, candle shaped lights. The room branched off into three directions, two halls on either sides of me and the one in front, all seeming to stretch on for forever. All the halls were lined with deep red lockers and wooden doors, matching the cherry wood floor boards. The walls were painted a light beige, a nice contrast with all the dark features of the place.
After inspecting all the halls from where I stood, I took notice of a little sign sticking out from the wall, above a door at the beginning of the hall to my left. The sign said 'Counselor's Office' so I shrugged and headed toward the door, assuming that was where I was supposed to go. There was no one in the halls, making me check my watch real quick, confirming my suspicions that classes had begun when I read that it was 9:04 AM, classes having started at 8:45 AM.
As I stood in front of the dark, wooden door I began to get nervous again, my palms sweating, prompting me to wipe them on the khaki pants that I had to wear as a part of the school uniform. A white dress shirt was tucked into them and a deep red, almost maroon blazer sat on top, accompanied by the same colored tie, except the tie was decorated with a plaid design. The school's emblem was embroidered on the blazer, over my heart, the gold a stark contrast to the deep, dark red. Taking the handle of the door into my hands I pushed through and entered the office, immediately taking in my surroundings.
It was much more modern than the front entrance, less extravagant. A front desk and a waiting area near it was what filled most of the room I stood in, a desk with three computers off to the side, pushed against an empty wall. Across from the desk where an older lady sat, furiously typing away at here computer, three doors stood, each with a plaque above them sporting the last names of what I assumed were the counselors that helped the students when needed. I walked up to the desk, clearing my throat when the lady just kept typing, making her snap her head up to look at me. Her glare showed me that she was not pleased in the slightest to see me.
"What are you doing here, young man? Tardiness is not taken lightly here at St. Charleston and unless you have a valid excuse, then this is cause for a write up young man." She snapped, her voice as sharp as her gaze, making me physically flinch and take a step back, while also averting my gaze. Scary.
