Twenty-three year old Evie looked down at her pregnancy test and began to cry tears of joy. She was finally pregnant. Her and her husband, Steve have been married for four years now and they were going to be parents. They always used protection but deep down Evie hoped it wouldn't work so she could have a baby; she got her wish. Steve was watching TV in the living room. Evie ran to him and wrapped him in a hug.

''Woah babe'', Steve said while giving her a mini hug. ''What's up?''

''Steve. I'm pregnant! Were're going to be parents!'' Steve's face fell. He never really wanted kids. He didn't hate them or anything; just ddin't want them. And besides he was no where near father material.

''Great.'' Steve put on a fake smile and Evie hugged him. He wasn't ready for kids.

9 months later

Evie had given birth to a baby girl. Her name was Susan Jacey Randle- Sussie. She looked just like Evie. Steve noticed that right away when he was holding her. She had his eyes and cheekbones but everything else was Evie's. He was terrified. He didn't know anything about being a dad. Even though Dally, Ponyboy, and Two-Bit, and even Tim Shepard all helped him and gave him advice about being a father. All of them had children. Ponyboy had a four year old daughter; Mary Curtis. Dally had a two year old son; Ean Winston. Two-Bit had a one year old son; Mark Matthews. Tim had two children. Three year old Vince Shepard and one year old Mike Shepard. He still ddin't understand. He was suppost to grow old with Evie and love each other for ever. He knew with a baby he and Evie would fight quit a bit.

Steve filled out the birth certificate. He heard all the ''congratulations'' and ''I'm so happy for you'' but Steve wasn't all that happy.

It wasn't that he didn't love Sussie. That was his daughter; his blood. He loved her with all his heart. It was just  he felt he wasn't ready to have kids and start a family. Three days went by and Evie and her baby went home.

5 years later

Evie and Steve were snuggling on the couch. Sussie was playing with her toys. Steve was trying to get Evie alone with her all day but the only reply he got was,

''Why do you only pay attention to me? Go spend some time with our daughter!''

''Come on babe. We never get to see each other anymore.''

''That's now excuse! Did you not want her Steve? Is that why you ignore 'er?''

''I'm not ignorin' 'er! She's five. She entertains herself! Just look at her playin' in her room with her barbies.'' Evie shook her head and went in her and Steve's room.

Ever since then Sussie caught on to the fact her dad didn't spend a large amount of tie with her. Sometimes she wouldn't go near him. They ddin't usually talk all that much. They would talk for a minute or two but they never had full on conversations.

When Sussie turned seven she became real tough. She didn't cry over her dad anymore. She wore lather jackets and put a little hair grease in her hair. She didn't wear makeup. No way would her parents let  her do that. Sussie Randel was the toughest greaser girl in all of Tulsa. She was even tougher than Mary Curtis; and Mary Curtis was a strong girl. She wasn't a hood or a JD, but she sure wasn't an angel.

A couple nights ago Sussie and her dad got into a big fight. Sussie's grades weren't exactly the best and her dad din't like that too much.

''You told me you studied!'' her dad screamed.

''I did! I just don't get the stuff!'' she screamed back.

''You should've asked me or your teacher for help! I'm a wiz at this!''

''I failed! Who cares?''

''I care!'' Then Sussie got real mad. He didn't care 'bout me back when I was  a baby but he cares now? I don't think so.

''Really? You sure ddin't care when I was a baby and cryin' for yer attention!'' Just then Sussie bolted out the door and ran to the Winston house. Everyone went there when something bad happened. She had tears in her eyes but quickly wiped them away. I'm a greaser, and greasers don't cry she thought to herself. Usually she would talk to Ean and Annie's parents but this time she felt like talking to just Ean and Annie.

''He didn't even want me.'' Sussie said. Her eyes were red and puffy but no tears came out. Nine year old Ean and five year old Annie tried talking to her.

''Aw Sussie he wants ya. Why ya sayin' this kind of stuff?'' Ean asked in hopes to help his friend.

''He didn't pay any attention to me. My parents fight 'bout it and I want no part of it anymore.''

''Don't be sad, Sussie.'' Annie said while patting her on the back.

Just then Ean and Annie's mother, Brittney came out.

''Sussie your father called. He's coming to pick you up.'' Brittney gave Sussie a sympathetic look and went inside.

When Sussie's dad went to pick her up they didn't say a word to each other. All Sussie did was keep quiet and when they got home she went to sleep.

By the time Sussie was ten she was feared by every soc girl in town. None of them dare mess with her. They knew what would happen if they did. She had her eye on a greaser who was as tough as her.

Mike Shepard was the guy she was crushing on. Little did she know Mike liked her back. Their always nervous around each other and joked about everything. Sussie normally stayed at her friends house. She tried to avoid home as much as possible. All her parents do is fight, and all they fight about is her; how her dad never pays any attention to her. All that good stuff. Sussie felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed in her own home.

It was around September when Evie got a call from the hospital. Sussie was in a rumble and got hurt really bad. When Evie told Steve, he nearly had a heart attack. Would Sussie be okay? They rushed to the hospital to see their daughter.

Sussie had bandages on her face. She had scares and bruises. It was the first time in a while Steve looked his daughter in the eye and cried.

''Sussie,'' he started,'' I am so sorry I ignored you all these years.'' He bawled. He felt so guilty he did that to his own daughter. What a jerk.

He hugged Sussie and she hugged back. Evie joined them. She was glad her daughter was okay and the wall between her and Steve was knocked down.

Steve's apology didn't exactly fix everything between him and Sussie, but it was a start. A good start.
