Kenta and Kazuya made sure to find each other immediately at lunch time, not wanting to have meet new people alone.
"Do you know anyone yet?" Kazuya asked Kenta as the two sat at an empty table, well it was empty for the most part other than a girl who sat at the other end. The lunch room was filled with long tables, and many more long tables then needed too.
Kenta decided not to tell him about Rin, "No, you?" Kazuya squinted his eyes in a way to question Kenta, he could usually tell when Kenta was hiding something.
"Yes, actually." Kazuya picked up his fork and began poking his food, if that's what you could call it.
"Oh really? And who would that be." Kenta was to interested now, not even picking up his fork to eat.
"A girl, I invited her to eat with us too." Kenta couldn't help but laugh, this was just like Kazuya.
"Of course, you meet a girl and you invite her to lunch, but you care less to get her name." Kazuya laid his head back in defeat.
"Yes I know her name its-"
"Rin." Kenta's facial expression froze, doing his best not to show any kind of feeling. Slowly glancing over at the other side of the lunch table he saw her. The long black hair and black eyes, there was no denying it.
"Oh hey Rin!" Kazuya smiled at Rin then looked over at Kenta who still wore that same frozen expression while looking at Rin. "This is-"
"I know who he is, Kenta Kato." Rin said, picking up her own fork and focusing on the food in front of her.
"Kenta?" Kazuya squinted at Kenta.
Kenta slowly looked back to his friend. "Yes?"
"Let's talk bud." Kazuya turned around in his chair to have his back to Rin, Kenta doing the same. "Why is she acting like that?"
Kenta looked at the ground, remembering the conversation outside the Academy he had with the girl. "I've only talked to her once. She didn't seem any different then she is now."
Kazuya scratched the back of his head in confusion. "Earlier she was real nice to me. What did you do to make her like that?"
Kenta closed his eyes as a shot of pain went through his body. She had treated Kazuya nicely but not him, and all because he came from wealth. This was why Kenta had to become a ninja, he had to show people that he wasn't just some spoiled brat. Kenta just had no idea how difficult doing just that was proving to be. He was just thankful that he had Captain Huyushi around to help him through everything.
Ultimately, Kenta decided to lie. "You know me," Kenta wore a fake smile as he looked his friend in the eye. "I'm a loser when it comes to the ladies." Kazuya raised up in his seat and puffed is chest out while placing two fists on his hips, drawing a laugh from Rin and Kenta both.
"You know better than anyone that I'm the undisputed champ in that bud!" Kenta really did appreciate Kazuya, in so many ways at that. All of Kenta's life he had wanted someone to accept him as someone other than a rich kid and Kazuya did just that. Kenta couldn't think of one time that Kazuya asked him about his family or wealth.
"Just shut it and eat your food!" Kenta exclaimed at his friend and sucker punched Kazuya right in the gut, causing Kazuya to collapse in his seat and hold his stomach. All of this was a show however, the two mocked fighting all the time.
"Fine fine." Both Kenta and Kazuya turned back in their seats and finally began on their food, or so they hoped too.
"So Kenta, do you think you have a shot in the tournament coming up?" Rin asked, being much nicer in tone then she was before.
Kenta held the fork in his hand but looked up to meet Rin's face. "I hope I can win it!" He was excited, maybe being around him helped Rin warm up.
"Well why wouldn't you? With your training and all." Rin looked back at her food but only played with it.
Kenta, who didn't catch a hint of the sarcasm, thought out his best answer. "I expect everyone to give their all. And I'm just really excited to compete."
"Must be easy for you to be confident with all your training?" Rin asked, that similar tone and glare returning to form as she looked down on Kenta.
"Yeah, I'd say so. I'm just confident of my abilities in general." Kenta began eating his food, not wanting to meet her glare any longer. He would prove her wrong, he knew he would. He actually wanted to be Rin's friend, Kenta just had to find a way for the two to connect.
Kazuya looked from his friend who was stuffing his face to his new friend who was staring daggers into the other. He wanted to change the subject to something to unite the two so he looked around the lunch room until he saw a that kid from earlier in the class. "Hey, isn't that the kid asking questions all through out class?"
Rin looked over her shoulder at the boy who was sitting all by himself. "Maybe we should invite him over here. But I don't even remember his name."
Kenta, who kept his face down at his food, looked at the boy they were referring to. "You mean Moto Kansuke?"
"Yep, that's it!" Kazuya grinned at Kenta, he didn't look it but Kenta could remember just about anything. Having a big heart didn't hurt either.
"Hey! Moto!" Kenta yelled across the lunchroom, getting the attention from almost every student and embarrassing his comrades.
Moto gingerly looked over his shoulder to see that one kid who wouldn't stop talking in class, he believed his name was Kenta. "Moto! Come sit with us!" Kenta exclaimed, slapping a hand down next to Rin. Moto hesitated at first, but then picked up his tray and took a seat next to a girl he was sure had the name Rin. She was one of the only girls that he found attractive.
"You can sit here from now on if you want." Rin said, looking over at him.
"T-thank you." Was all Moto could get out when looking at Rin, he was sure this is what his father said a crush was.
"Alright, so let me tell you guys about this time when I was training." Kenta began, while Kazuya rolled his eyes.
...End of chapter.
I'm back with chapter 9! I do plan on updating this story much more frequent then I have in the past. I'm finally getting out of all the introductions, although don't worry there's many more characters that will flow throughout this story. I'm not really sure how long this story will go but trust me it will be one looong story. If there are certain story lines or other things that are similar to Naruto then I apologize but it wasn't intentional. I hope you all will enjoy the chapter!
