We pulled up to school and went straight to our homeroom. Which thankfully we had together.
"Alright kids, settle down," Mr. Crane, our homeroom teacher, said as be scurried to our seat. I lead Claire to the back row and she looked worried. I shot her a look.
Get over it.
Easy for you to say. She shot back with a glare.
Mr.Crane handed out our schedules as we chatted. Claire and I compared our schedules immediately.
"We have social studies and science together!" Claire squealed.
"And we both got our performing arts classes!" I joined her. I got into photography and she got into art. YES! Then the bell rang. Time for class!
~~~
Ahh, photography class! My favorite class, and time of the day. I walked, well more like wobbled in and sat down. I should have listened to Claire. My feet are killing me! Why did I have to wear heels today? I sat down near the back. The teacher, Ms. Grey, began talking so I rubbed my heels for a while.
"Now, I've set up a bunch of photos around the room. I want you to walk around the room and pick the photo you like the most." She announced and we all go out of our seats.
The pictures were all very professional. Obviously all Ms. Grey's works. There was a picture of clouds, a tree, a dandelion, birds, cats, rabbits, even a grasshopper. But the one that stood out the most, to me anyway, was a picture of a pier at the beach at sunset. The sky was a breathtaking assortment of colors that reflected off the rippling ocean water. I unclipped the picture from the string and walked back to my seat. It reminded me of when Claire and I were younger. We used to go to the pier all the time, to escape our worries. We spent hours there, talking and swimming like we had all the time in the world. We don't there very often anymore. I guess we kind of got to busy or, moved on. My memory was interrupted by Ms. Grey.
"Okay everyone! I want you all to write a short poem about the picture you chose." She began. "And be creative!" Groans filled the room. I grinned.
What to write... I thought. So I just wrote down my memory.
The sun sinks into the sky
Waves pull in and out
Worries drift away
I was beaming with pride as Ms. Grey collected our papers. There were only a few minutes of class left.
"Now for your homework," She started. Groans sounded the room but Ms. Grey just rolled her eyes. "I know, I know. I'm such a terrible teacher. Your homework tonight is to try to "recreate" the picture you chose. It doesn't have to be exact but try your best. I will see you all tomorrow. Have a nice day!"
And then, the bell rang.
~~~
Man she's good! I thought. Finally, the day was coming to an end. My heels clicked as I made my way down the hall to my locker. I put a dazzling smile on my face. You know what they say, If you've got it, flaunt it. So I did. I was on top of the world. I heard Claire calling my name so I spun around. I felt something sweep under my feet and a girl smirking before I was headed towards the floor. It was a blur as I fell.
And then something unexpected happened. Instead of hitting the cold hard ground, so what I'm Swiftie's fan, I fell into something firm.
I fell into someone's arms.
