Chapter Three

Blessing or Mistake?

For the past couple of weeks, you had only been thinking about what had almost happened and every time you thought about it, your face flushed. Your coworkers had began noticing and asking but you told them you had just remembered an embarrassing moment.

Ryuzaki tried not to look at you. You noticed how he avoided you as much as he could, and never talked to you. It frustrated you. 'What did I do to deserve being shunned?' You huffed whilst looking in your wardrobe. You took out a simple, casual outfit.

After being in the team for awhile now, you had begun to notice the behavior between Light and Misa. Their subtle body language had you curious, it indicated that they were closed, reserved. 'Could they be hiding something?' You pondered. Lately, you had even suspected that Light and Misa were Kira.

You had been meaning to talk to Ryuzaki about it but he always avoided you nonstop. You didn't understand what caused this to happen, but you were at work. Today was the day in which you would have to talk to Ryuzaki inform him of your suspicions. You sighed and quickly walked out.

You got down to the correct floor and looked around. Everyone was already there and you ironed your resolve. You spotted Ryuzaki almost immediately. 'Here goes.'

"Good afternoon, Y/N!" Matsui greeted cheerfully. You smiled at him and exchanged greetings with the rest of the crew. Heading over to Ryuzaki, you tapped his shoulder.

"May I talk to you in private?" You asked quietly. Ryuzaki nodded and stood up. Beckoning you forward, he began walking with you to a room with dim lighting. A laptop with wires with situated in the middle. 'Probably his room.'

"Go ahead. What do you need to speak to me about?" Ryuzaki asked you calmly, with a slightly curious look in his eyes. You cleared you throat, preparing to speak.

"I believe Misa Amane and Light Yagami are Kira. My theory is that Light hacked into his fathers computer and withdrew a copy of each file regarding the Kira case, causing him to be completely informed of each of our moves. Since he is on the team as well, he knows every move we make."

"In fact, I believe he is utilizing Misa with the illusion of a new world since the second Kira can kill with just a face. Misa isn't the brightest, she can't see Light's plan."

"I also believe that Shinnigamis most likely have to do with this case. After various sleepless nights of researching I came upon a myth that each Shinnigami holds a notebook which can kill by just writing a name."

"I believe a Shinnigami dropped their Death Note in the human world for entertainment due to the same myth stating that most of the Shinnigami realm is rotten and bare. Due to there being two Kira's, there must be two notebooks and therefore there must be two Shinnigamis."

You finally finished talking and looked up to Ryuzaki, whose thumb resided on his lip and a plate with a slice of cake was located on his other hand. 'How the heck did that get there?' You raised a brow.

Ryuzaki finally spoke. "Very convincing and it all fits... but there is one problem; those are myths. Not true facts. If these were facts, I would believe every single statement you said. On the contrary, I also share your theory of Light Yagami and Misa Amane being the two Kiras." He told you before devouring the slice of cake.

You felt the color drain from your face. He didn't believe you! That felt worse than you imagined. You sighed, immensely disappointed and your temper got the best of you. "I researched for hours the past couple nights; not getting sleep, food, and just stopping to go to the restroom. Every single site I researched on had facts! I wrote all of the sites down for you in this note! I looked at over a hundred websites and they all said the exact same! THESE ARE FACTS!" You exclaimed angrily, on the verge of shouting.

Ryuzaki was about to speak but the now calmed expression on your face stopped him. "It is my job to find criminals and put them to jail. I do not just look on wikis where random shit is, I research. It just annoyed me that you scarcely believed me." You stood and bowed in immense apology. "I apologize, my temper took ahold of my judgement."

"You shouldn't shout at your boss like that, Ms. Y/N. You shouldn't let personal feelings and anger take control of you. You must act like this is a puzzle or game; think and complete. That is how you can get a case done, clearly you are doing none of this. I hired you for your intelligence and the past cases you've solved." Ryuzaki told you, looking at you straight in the eye.

You were about to speak but Ryuzaki silenced you. "If you will not act with us and research with us in unison, if you will not act alongside us... then you are dismissed. Permanently. Our priority is catching Kira, Y/N." Ryuzaki told you with a serious tone. You widened your eyes in surprise.

"I'm fired?!" You exclaimed while covering a hand over your mouth.

"I will not repeat myself. Just because you have been permanently dismissed doesn't mean you can't conduct your own investigation. Though, if you'd start packing and leaving soon I would be very appreciative. Say your goodbyes and leave soon. It was nice working with you, Lieutenant Y/N L/N." Ryuzaki stood and sent a glance your way.

You removed the hand from your mouth and nodded silently. "It was nice working with you... L..." You whispered with tears as you quickly left the room. You slammed the door closed and wiped your eyes. All of your ex-coworkers looked at you as you quickly stormed into the elevator.

You reached your room and quickly packed everything. You hadn't lasted long but you enjoyed the time here. You smiled at all the good memories and all the good cakes you had eaten. You would miss everyone.

You came back to the room where the investigation was being held and everyone looked at you. You walked towards each of them and hugged them. When you went to hug Light, you hugged him longer than everyone else. "I know what you are." You uttered silently, Light gave you a serious expression and you showed him a sarcastic smile.

You hugged Misa next, who looked a little jealous. You smiled at her. "See you soon."

You turned over to L with a blank expression. "Goodbye L." You said whilst bowing. Quickly, you turned and left. You quickly left the building to find it was raining and sighed. 'Maybe it was better this way. I can conduct my own investigation without any stoplights.'

     It was afternoon when you exited the building. You saw Watari at the entrance of the building when you turned around for the last time and waved goodbye.

     Not wanting the rain to completely soak you, you opened the umbrella you were given at the exit. You treaded along the sidewalk calmly, letting the silent oasis take you away.
