He took a breath, cutting the stove off and leaving the kitchen.

"Doctor Brock," Zayn greeted as he walked outside and towards the older man. Solána was gone right now and it was just him.

"Zayn," the wealthy as fuck man greeted in the same lazy and happy tone.

"To what do I owe this pleasure, sir?"

"Your mermaid," he emphasized the second word and Zayn inwardly questioned whether this man believed he actually had a mermaid or not, "where is it.

She wasn't an it. "Sir, I think you're mistaken--"

"Surely I'm not," the man smiled, "let's get inside, it might rain today."

"I didn't know," Zayn ignored his two guards that followed behind almost ten feet away. They headed into the house, where they were greeted by Zayn's dog, not Zayn's mermaid.

"Ah, I've never seen your house before," Dr. Brock praised, "it looks great. Sitting on top of money ain't so bad, eh?"

"Well--"

"Enough of the chitchat," he cut Zayn off, "where's my mermaid?"

Solána ran and ran and ran, never stopping the three miles it took to get to the waterfall. She was a fast runner regardless of her mermaid strength, so it didn't take long. She huffed, stopping at the edge of the water and looking back at the house, which had chimney smoke coming from it. Surprisingly this island stayed cold and Zayn was a thin man.

She tried to regain her breath as she sat down on a boulder and kept looking at the house, her ears opening and sharply listening to their conversation.

The water behind her was painting another image for her without knowing, she heard the trickling sounds and abruptly turned around. Solána stood, watching what seemed like the conversation they were having now.

"That wasn't a mermaid!" Zayn defended himself, "that was me talking to my mom."

"As if!" the other man spat in annoyance.

"Yes it was! She was telling me about my baby sister's creative writing assignment that she got a high score on."

Solána didn't know whether that was a good or bad lie, but the doctor sort of bought it.

"You know, Malik," he gestured to his henchemen and they left the room. Solána made two more pictures pop up, monitoring where the guards were going while their conversation was still ringing in her ear.

"What?" Zayn backed up a little as the man spoke.

"I knew something was up with you when you didn't want to kill those sharks I brought you. You've been hiding something from the get go and I wanna know what is is and I wanna know now. If it's not a mermaid, then what is it?"

"It's nothing but the colossal squid, sir--"

"Fuck the squid!" The man shoved Zayn against the wall, his hand around his neck, "I need answers."

"I don't have any answers you want," Zayn's voice cracked and Solána was getting angry. The clouds in the sky were dark grey and soon, rain started to fall. The droplets caused the images to be askew but she still saw the henchmen tear his room apart. One even went in the marine lab and tapped the glass tanks to make sure there wasn't any unidentified creatures in them.

"Boss!" One henchman came back with his dog, a small photograph in his hand, "I didn't find anything but this picture."

The doctor took the photograph and looked at it. Zayn gulped, probably already knowing what it was. "What the hell is this?"

The photograph was of Solána, and she suddenly cursed herself for forgetting that photo. It showed her underwater in the tank, her shimmering tale and violet blue eyes glowing.

"Well, that is, um--"

"Where the fuck is it!" the man yelled, pulling out a gun and gesturing for his henchmen to hold Zayn in place.

Solána panicked, hopping off the beach and running towards the house again.

This was not how it should have happened. They should have not went through his things and found that picture. The doctor was just supposed to leave Zayn's story and move on about his day. She didn't register how hostile people got about things like this. The unknown scared and intrigued humans to an extent in which she would never understand.

Doctor Brock was close to snapping and firing that gun at Zayn, and Solána was either going to make the situation better or worse. Of all her one hundred and forty years on this earth, she had never cared so deeply and passionately about someone in her life, until Zayn came along.

He was perfect, beautiful, understanding, and hilarious. She would never find another man like that, and she don't want to. If Zayn died today, it'd be all her fault, and that was something she would never get over for the rest of her life, and that was a very long time.

Solána tripped over a falling tree but bounced right back. As her emotions began to take over the environment, their part of the earth started to shake and rumble. A tsunami whirled in the ocean, and any land or sea creature hid in their homes, because her wrath wasn't something to be reckoned with.

A small lake started to overflow and lightning struck from the sky with the rumble of thunder following. Solána kept running as the aquamarine tears fell from her eyes.

Then she heard it.

Not just one gunshot. But two.

Solána geared up an image of present day in her mind and it concluded that Zayn was indeed shot. Once in the stomach, and another on the other side of his heart.

And she ran faster and faster, never stopping until she reached her destination.

yo fuck this

I'm so scared😂😂
