???"So what does this one say?"
Zayn looked down at his arm and smiled at the tattoo she was pointing at. "'S a boom box."
"Oh," she moved his arm around and examined some more. Solána was very wise, all the time, catching on quickly to things and inderstanding how it worked. It was getting easier and easier to do it, and he could tell she was happy and proud.
"And this is some intergalactic thing right here -- oh my God, a snake," she gasped and looked at the large snake around his shoulder, "that scared me."
Zayn chuckled, watching her eyes light up and smiling at her face. They were really close but he didn't complain, Solána was warm and pretty and oh so very pretty, sheesh. He got lost in a trance sometimes because she was just too much.
Anyway, she was in his lap and totally too distracted by the ink on his arms to watch the movie that was Scarface. She was deeply interested at first but of course, that movie was long and Zayn's arm was right there around her.
"I know you have some on your chest," she continued while he watched the TV, "and your legs. But where else? Zayn."
"What?"
"Are you listening to me?"
"Yeah, yeah..." he finally looked at her and sighed, "my hip."
"You have hips?"
"Ha ha. Please, you're hilarious, Solána, keep going."
She giggled, leaning on his chest and hugging him.
Honestly, Zayn was freaking out. Like, Solána was so perfect and so cute and so...everything, he felt something for her and he didn't know what to do about this situation. He didn't know if he should tell her or just let it all explode one day because, really, he really liked her a lot but she just never noticed.
Or maybe she did but didn't know what to do either.
Whatever, Zayn was just super nervous and he...he wasn't sure what to do.
"Your heart is beating really fast," she whispered with closed eyes as her ear was against his chest, "what's wrong?"
"Nothing, nothing, ah," he sighed deeply again and just looked at the TV, trying to concentrate on what was going on. Solána smiled against him and pulled the covers over them both. "Solána?"
"Yes?"
Zayn was a chicken. "You hungry?"
"No, I'm not. Didn't we just eat?"
"Oh yeah," God, he was so stupid, "never mind."
"What's wrong? Really," she sat up looked at him intently, making him break eye contact and look at something behind her.
"Nothing, I just...I don't know."
"Is it something I did? Did I say something stup--"
"No, no," he chuckled and stopped her from talking, "you're...you wanna go into the city with me?"
???
"Ooh," Solána cooed at the outside of a jewelry store, her nose almost pressed against the glass, "shiny."
Zayn just smiled, looking around at the night scenery of San Francisco. He liked it here, especially when it was nighttime and there was always something going on. He looked at Solána and noticed she was no where in sight.
"What the fuck--"
"I'm here!" she walked over to him with a random flower in her hand.
"God, you scared me," he sighed in relief and held her hand, "stay close, alright?"
"Okay," she smiled and walked with him along the sidewalk, "...didn't that man win the election yesterday?"
"Let's not talk about that," Zayn laughed lightly but in all truth, he was afraid for the country. Even though he didn't live in the United States anymore, he still was afraid for the people in it. Not the white people, though.
"Is it gonna be bad?" she asked innocently and Zayn couldn't fault her at all. She was too cute and innocent at times to notice anything.
"You heard him on the TV, haven't you? It's gonna be a mess."
"Oh. Just...just come live with me underwater," she joked but really, Zayn had a dream about it last night. Just drop off the face of the earth for sure. Fuck it up. "Will that help?"
"Totally," he grinned and put his arm around her. Solána hugged Zayn's waist and they kept walking around the strip. "You actually need clothes, though. That's another reason why we're here."
"Cool," her eyes were bright as she looked around for a place and caught onto a Forever 21, "what's that one?"
"Not a bad place to start, actually."
An hour and a half later, Solána basically had a whole new wardrobe. She was very minimalistic, honestly, so it all consisted of sweaters and casual dresses and leggings of the sorts. He thought it was cute and she was really happy now.
"Thank you, Zayn," she smiled softly as they got on his small yacht and he started the engine, "for everything."
"It's nothing," he shrugged it off and sailed on the water. He sat down and put one hand on the steering wheel.
"I enjoyed myself," she said, sitting beside him and leaning on his shoulder. Solána kissed his cheek and he broke out into a grin, looking down at her before back at the ocean.
"Me, too."
"So what are we doing tomorrow?" she leaned back and stretched her arms out, Zayn noticing how breathtakingly beautiful she was. At night, her eyes glowed a deep blue and her skin was rich and sort of glistening in the dark moonlight. Her hair fell around in large poofy locks and tight curls, blowing in the wind as his boat sailed farther and farther away from the coast.
"You pick," he replied easily, putting his arm around her again so she could lean closer, "whatever you want."
"Okay," she smiled and he already knew she had a plan just by that look, "I'm not going to tell you, Zayn."
"Why not?"
"Because it's a surprise."
