It was pitch black. I couldn't see anything.
I'd dropped my flashlight in shock, but now that it was dark, I didn't dare try to find it.
Then suddenly, something started flickering in the distance.
Then I saw something.
It started as just a flash of light. But as I saw it more clearly, I could see a shape forming. It was a figure.
First I saw her floral dress. Then the satin ribbon in her ponytail. Then I saw her braided blonde hair.
It was a girl.
She was too transparent to be real, but too solid to be my imagination.
And she flickered by the second, as if she was a hologram from space.
My heart was in my mouth. My pulse was racing at a million miles per hour.
I couldn't move. I was absolutely frozen still.
Then, she started coming towards me.
And as she did, I saw something else. A wound started forming across her chest. Red blood started soaking her white dress and started dripping down onto her legs.
She came closer to me and I could smell the murky smell of death, corpses and dried blood.
I wanted to scream, but no sound came out of my mouth. I wanted to run, but it was like my feet were glued to the ground. I had nowhere to go.
I shut my eyes as tight as I could. I could feel her cold breath on my face now. I didn't dare open my eyes. What would I see if I looked into her eyes? Did she have eyes? Or were they just empty sockets? Those were questions I didn't want to know the answers to.
I closed my eyes, stood as firm as I could, and just prayed for God to strike me dead.
As I stood infront of this terrifying entity, the final words of the story that I didn't get to finish came tumbling into my mind.
And they called it the House Of Hazel, because legend says, every being that has entered this house, was confronted by the ghost of a young girl. The ghost of Hazel Thorne.
I couldn't breathe now. The legend was real. They were right. All this time, I'd believed that ghosts weren't real... and now I was standing infront of one.
I forced myself to open my eyes.
But when I did, she was gone.
Nobody was infront of me.
I didn't waste time pondering over what I had seen. I ran down that staircase faster than I had ever run before. I burst through the door and just kept running. I didn't care about anything now. I just wanted to get out of that house.
I didn't bother calling Becca to give me a ride. I just ran as fast as my legs could take me. Tears of fear ran down my face as I sprinted as fast as I could on my still-shaky feet. I tried not to close my eyes, because when I did, I just saw her.
I was terrified out of my mind. Running to my house felt like forever with the visions of Hazel clouding my mind.
When I finally got home, I ran through the door and up the stairs as fast as I could. I ignored Rachel and Becca as they repeatedly called my name and asked if I was okay.
I wasn't okay. I pulled my duvet over my head, as if it would protect me from all those horrible visions. I closed my eyes as tightly as I could and lay on my side under the covers. I hugged my knees to my chest and blocked out my friends' voices. All I could hear was the loud thudding of my heart and the sharp sound of me trying to catch my breath. Why did I take that dare? I didn't care about the money anymore. I would have payed to unsee everything I saw in that house. It was a nightmare... except worse, because it was real.
