Rachel gave me an evil smile.
She and Becca eyed each other deviously as if this was something they'd been planning for a long time.
"I dare you," she said, her hushed, whispery voice adding to the eerie feel of the room, "to go to The House Of Hazel."
I let out a loud laugh of relief.
"The House Of Hazel?" I asked in disbelief. "That mansion across the street? The one all the schoolkids make up stories about? Come on, that thing is as fake as a three dollar bill."
Becca stared at me jaw-dropped, "Eva... it's been abandoned for fourty-eight years. And everyone that's been there since has been rumored to go mental. Eva it's—"
"No need to say all that," Rachel cut in. "If she thinks it that easy, we'll make it harder."
She grinned at me evilly, her green eyes glittering with mischief under the dim glow of the candlelight.
She took my phone from my bedside table and placed it in my hand.
"You're going to go to that house," she said, "and take a film of every room. And while you do that, you're going to narrate the legend of the house out loud as you walk through the house. Every room."
She pulled out a wad of dollar bills from her pocket and placed it in the middle of the bed. Becca pulled another crumpled wad and a couple of coins and placed it on top of Rachel's money.
"If you do it, it's all yours," Rachel said.
I smiled at them daringly.
"Challenge accepted."
