Alice's pov
My ears spooked up at the rattling chatter of a metal on metal. The sound of the bell screaming like tortured hinges had me frightened since all I could see was darkness. Trying very hard to open up my eyelids I finally had the taste of direct sunlight over my eyes. I immediately closed my eyes again, regretting the decision. The piercing sound of something pierced my ear drums and I realised that it sounded like a door bell. Adjusting my eyes to the sunlight, I directed my eyeballs all around only to realise that I was lying on the bed that too in a very rigid position with my feet touching the floor and the upper half of my body rested on the edge of the bed.
I folded my knees, kept both my palms on either side of me and tried to lift up my upper body. As my body rose up from the soft bed that felt as hard as a stone, a twitching pain hit the left side of my neck. The pain seemed to cascade up my head which was already throbbing. It felt like my nerves could burst anytime. With so much of difficulties I finally managed to stand up on my feet which was still covered with my sandals and I was still wearing the dress from yesterday.
Why did I sleep like this?
The last thing I could remember was me sitting in the car with Mr Wilson.
"Alice? " came a deep worried voice from outside the door.
Mr Wilson?
I slipped off my heels and walked towards the door, stumbling every time like a drunken stupor. And again my head whirled around making it difficult to walk.
I opened the door only to be met by a worried face,
" Mr Wilson? " my raspy voice even hurt my throat."Why did you take so much time to open the door? And why are you still in yesterday's attire, it's eight in the morning?"
"umm I uh.... I slept like this I, I wasn't feeling quite well" I whispered.
"Are you okay? " he sounded worried.
" yeah just, the weather here doesn't suit me I guess"
"okay be ready in half an hour. I'm waiting at the lobby. "
Before I could ask as to where we'll be going, he turned around and walked off.
Back in the bedroom I took out my clothes from the big wardrobe and limped to the bathroom. Yes, I had settled all the things in the wardrobe since we'll be here for some times.
The hot water soothed my skin and I didn't feel any weight on my head. I closed my eyes stressing on my brain to remember the last night.
"Alice, beautiful name"
"you are Adrian's date aren't you? "
" What are you to him? "
" just an employee"
"since when have you known him? "
" Impressive. You must be someone special then."
"you're looking beautiful and I love the dress. Where did you get it from? "
" Alice here isn't feeling well so It'll be better if I take her back"
"rest a little"
All those broken sentences came into my consciousness but I still couldn't remember the faces that spoke these words. I pressurised more on my thought process hoping to remember something but none worked. These few words were the only thing that I remembered from last night.
At last I gave up when my head again started hurting from all the stress I had been giving to my brain since last ten minutes. Stepping out from the shower I got dressed and dried my hair.
