It had been just over two months since Bernie had left Serena for a career in Kiev, setting up a new trauma unit in the cities hospital. None the less, leaving a certain Serena Campbell heart broken. The secondment was supposed to end in mid November, however Bernie still hadn't returned.

It was now Christmas Eve in the Campbell household. Serena didn't have an ounce of Christmas spirit in her body and quite frankly was giving up on the thought of Bernie ever returning to Holby City. Jason on the other hand was filled with Christmas spirit, he couldn't wait to open his presents and have his family and friends around, and for this reason Serena allowed herself to up her Christmas spirit.

With the fire on and great company, including Elinor, Jason, Raf, Fletch and kids, Serena for the first time in a long time found herself rather content. Jason was indulging in Pointless on the television, and the others were busy on the karaoke. It was Serena's turn on the karaoke and she opted to sing Blondie's 'Maria'. Something about the song reminded her of Bernie, however tonight was about enjoying herself, so she pushed the thought of Bernie out of her mind, Shiraz in hand, singing with all her soul.

"Maria

You've gotta see her

Go insane and out of your mind

Latina

Ave Maria

A million and one candlelight's" Serena sang, taking a swig of her Shiraz, everyone cheering her on as she continued to sing. As soon as she finished her song, she opted for another glass of Shiraz, wrapping her arm around Elinor and Raf as Fletch took to the karaoke. He opted to sing something far more macho, singing Bon Jovi's 'Living on a Prayer'. The kids looked slightly puzzled, as it wasn't a UK Top 40 Hit.

Half way through Fletch's song the doorbell rang. Serena giggling to herself let go of Elinor and Raf to answer the door. Laughing and drinking her Shiraz she swung the door open. Shock hit her body as she opened the door, dropping her glass of Shiraz.

"Hello Serena." Bernie smiled softly.
