The next day actually went pretty well, for a Thursday at least.
I woke early, showered and dressed in about ten minutes, way too anxious about school to even try to eat breakfast. It was a little early for Haruhi to even be awake, but I grabbed my backpack and headed next door anyway.
I could at least cook breakfast for her and Ranka, since I couldn’t eat myself. I just knew I wouldn’t be able to hold it down if I did.The two woke soon after I finished, and I watched them eat, assuring Haruhi I had already eaten breakfast before I came over. Of course, I could tell by her glance at Ranka that she didn’t believe me for a second. We had only known eachother for a couple of months and she already knew almost everything about me.
Haruhi had already dressed, and we left as soon as she finished eating. “ don’t forget to do the dishes, “ she threatened, before locking and closing the door behind her, “ Aku, are you sure you’re alright. You could always wait until Monday to start, you know”
“ I’m fine,” I promised, already heading downstairs, “ I was just a little shaken up yesterday. How on Earth did you get dragged into being in a Host club?” I asked, the words feeling rotten in my mouth. The idea of my innocent little Haruhi being in such a club was too disgusting.
Haruhi explained that she had accidentally broken an expensive vase, and her being in the club was to pay for it. So far, she had to get one thousand customers before they would let her quit.
I couldn’t help but laugh when she told me about being called a dog by Ootori, as well as how they had really thought she was a boy. It was just too funny, considering her dad’s occupation as a drag queen. She, in turn, couldn’t seem to get over the fact that Ootori had actually taken me home. Apparently, he was more of a money demon than anything, but my first impression about him being a ‘shadow king’ was pretty on point too.
We walked in to school together, and I couldn’t help but feel my anxiety crawling back up my throat when people stared and whispered. Of course, that’s probably because I had looped my arm with Haruhi’s. I guess, since everyone thought she was a boy, it appeared that I was her....girlfriend. Not that I wouldn’t date her. Haruhi is pretty great, and I would date her in a heartbeat, however, I’m pretty sure I’m straight.
Maybe. We finally made it to our first class, and I sunk into the seat next to Haruhi with a relieved sigh.
Of course, my relaxation was short-lived.
I only saw a flash of ginger before the twins from the evening before had wrapped their arms over my shoulders, grinning down at me.“ Oh no..” I muttered, lying my head on the desk.
“ oh no, what’s wrong, Kessaku, you don’t like us?” one teased, chuckling a bit,
The other finished his sentence without missing a beat, “ we never even got to introduce ourselves”
The two of them made a dramatic pose, introducing themelves as the Hitachiin twins, Hikaru and Kaoru. Apparenty they were first years as well, though I was still older. After all, I had been held back in elementary school, since I had never really had the best grades.
The class started and I found myself lost within minutes. I hadn’t learned any of this yet…surely they hadn’t already covered all this in just a couple of weeks. I began to panic a bit, and ended up doodling obsessively in the corner of my new notebook, so much so that the paes ripped a bit. Damn, and it was brand new…
After class, Haruhi promised to get me caught up, and assured me that it wasn’t quite as hard as it seemed. We had to part ways after that, and I was just as lost in all my other classes. Hopefully she was willing to tutor me in those, too…
