Chapter Six : Announcements
Verona
"Well, how did it go?" Arthur asked with a sip of his coffee as he and Verona, sat in their usual spot of the coffee shop.
Verona, sighed with a dreamy tone as she sat back in her chair and fiddled with the tips of her hair, "It was fantastic, he's a gentleman and talks like a gentleman. He's not some meathead who is
rough and ignorant," Verona said with a scoff and flip of her hair.
Arthur, grinned crookedly, "Well, I'm glad you're holding things up with him. I told you, he was cool."
"Yeah, yeah," Verona snorted before resting her elbows on the table and making eye contact with him, "What about you? You looked quite in a hurry yesterday." She said with an arched brow.
Arthur, felt a warmth swell in his cheeks as he looked down, instantly remembering Layla and the softness of her lips and the sparkle within her brown orbs. He cleared his throat, "What do you
mean?"
"You know what I mean, Arthur." Verona said suspiciously.
"Alright, alright... I.. I met a girl." He said quietly, running a hand through his messy blonde locks before placing his fedora back on.
Verona, raised her thin brows and gulped lightly. Why did that make her whole day turn upside down? And a sudden pounding in her chest? She wasn't feeling that this morning or just seven
seconds ago. "Y- you did?"
He nodded, smiling lightly as he traced the rim of his cup, "Her name is Layla... She's beautiful, Verona. Smart, funny, and completely special and important. We just 'get' each other and she knows
how to speak and... I don't know," He chuckled, running a hand over his face and letting his chin rest in his palm, smiling like a complete love struck dork. "She's perfect."
Those words made Verona's heart clench and anger boil in her, tears of anger and depression swelled up in her eyes as she tried her best not to cry or start getting jealous. Why should she be
jealous? She had Danny. She liked Danny, a lot. Arthur, was just a childhood crush and nothing more... she had to keep telling herself that and she needed to. She couldn't get attached to her emotions... She had to let, Arthur go.
"She.. she sounds lovely," Verona nodded, pulling on a fake smile that looked very real. She was always a brilliant liar, a liar in high school when she'd lie to her father of going to a friend's house
and actually heading to the drive in and driving cars with boys and then hitting the back seat with them.
Arthur, didn't notice as he smiled lightly and nodded, "She is...." He said slowly, then his smile dropping as he cleared his throat, "She is, but... She's a socialite."
Verona, raised her gaze back to him with her jaw a bit open, "She's a socialite?" She questioned, hissing under her breath, "Are you crazy?!"
"Shh!" Arthur shushed as he looked around them, making sure no one heard, "No, I'm not crazy. Layla, is a socialite but... she's not like the others. She doesn't judge or discriminate, she's a good
