March 30
Dear diary, I am so excited right now! Today is the day when me, Mami, and Nour are going to Germany with a group!!! I am so excited I jumped out of bed and ran down the stairs, my straight brown hair flying behind me, and screamed "Mami! عجلوا! It is time to go!" I hear Mami yelling back at me that she is coming. "Mami!" I scream from down stairs, "I am getting Nour." I run to Nour's house, so excited I can barely stop myself from cheering out loud. The only thing that is keeping me from cheering out loud is the thought that anyone might get sick, because a lot of people have been getting sick lately. I shook those thoughts out of my head and focused on going to Nour's. وداعا, Yana

Dear diary, We have already been walking for about five days now. I am aching for the dried fruit Mami brought for the trip but she keeps on saying that we need to savor our food. I disagree but I say "Fine Mami, if you insist." But I still looked longingly at the suitcase Mami put most of our stuff in. My suitcase had most of the clothes that were still in shape and some were for warm weather, and some were for cold weather, since Germany can be cold or warm. وداعا, Yana

Dear diary, I am starting to feel worried for Nour. He has been coughing, and coughing, and coughing. And every time he has coughed, it seems to get worse. I pray that he is not sick. I squeeze Mami's hand to tell her I want to tell her something. She bends down and puts her ear close to me so I can tell her what I want to say. "Mami." I whisper into her ear. "I think the doctor should check on Nour. He has been coughing for a while." Mami agreed and walked over to the doctor who was traveling with us, then whispered something into his ear and pointed to Nour. The doctor nodded and walked over to Nour, stopping him so he could look at him. Nour obeyed and stopped walking. The doctor checked Nour, feeling his heartbeat and his pulse, and then Nour coughed. The worst cough yet. The doctor, having heard the cough, looked at Nour's face, then strode over to Mami and murmured something in Mami's ear. Whatever he said, Mami's face turned pale and her eyes widened. "Mami!" I cried. "Please tell me he's alright!" I said, tears already forming on the brim on my eyes. Mami walked over to me and knelt down so her eyes were about the same level as mine and said, "Yana my darling, Nour has gotten pneumonia." وداعا, Yana

Dear diary, it has been about two weeks since Nour had gotten pneumonia and had to be sent home. I still cry just thinking about Nour. But at least I still have Mami. Mami gave me some shawarma for lunch. I munched on it, trying to make it last the longest it could, then finally finished it.وداعا, Yana
