Luka's POV
"Alright," Zayden clapped his hands "Time to open the gifts!"
It was around 8pm and we had just finished a game of Jenga. 'Eyes off you' came on just as he was reaching for the presents; as soon as he heard it he jerked up, his eyes sparkling "PERFECT!" and then as if he hadn't showed his excitement enough he started singing along
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
He danced. Zayden was dancing. I was shocked to say the least, he was good on his feet, his movements were ordered as if he had done this before, and he was light-footed even when he jumped he landed softly as if he was dancing on feathers rather on a carpet. In between every few lines he picked up a wrapped present from under the tree, read the tag and handed it to the person it belonged to, all the while still dancing. I heard Lace giggle before she too joined Zayden; Alexa started singing and so did Cayson.
Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that is real
You're just too good to be true
I can't take my eyes off you
Lace was smiling from ear to ear, she swayed from side to side occasionally bumping into my shoulder. It was the first time I've seen Cayson smile for so long, he finally seemed comfortable, a deep dimple appeared on one cheek among the lines that formed around his mouth. We all sang the next verse together, our voices loud enough that a petite figure appeared in the doorway.
I love you baby
And if it's quite all right
I need you baby
To warm the lonely nights
I love you baby
Trust in me when I say
Oh pretty baby
Don't let me down I pray
Oh pretty baby
Now that I've found you stay
And let me love you, baby
Let me love you
When Alexa noticed her presence she called out "Marcela! I've missed you" and ran over to hug her
"Me too, Lexy"
"Guys, this is my Aunt Marcela. Marcela these are Lace, Cayson, Grace and Lukas"
A round of 'hello's' echoed throughout the room as we greeted her. Marcela was wearing formal clothes and it was obvious she had just come back from work.
"We were just about to open the presents, here's yours" Zayden handed her a little red box with a ribbon on top
"Oh my god Zayden, you're not proposing, are you?" Alexa asked, her eyes wide but I didn't miss the crinkles at their edges and the playfulness in her voice.
"Ew"
"Lexie" both Zayden and his aunt spoke at the same time, their faces scrunched up.
"It's a small red velvet box with brown edges that's the most cliche proposal box I've ever seen, be more original"
"Shush! You're ruining the moment!"
"Right, go ahead with your speech" Zayden's face went blank, Alexa couldn't keep her face straight and started laughing so hard her cheeks turned into the slightest shade of pink
Grace shook the box she had in her hands as she watched Alexa laughing and frowned when it didn't make any sounds "So, how are we going to do this?" She asked
"Like dominos" Cayson suggested
"I start!" I piped in
I ripped open the package and found out that it was a navy sweater "Read what's written on the back" Alexa spoke. I turned it around and 'Zombie' was written on the back in white block letters "I got it two sizes too big because you love over-sized clothes" Alexa grinned at me.
"Why Zombie, though?" I asked my brows furrowed in confusion
"I'm offended!" She placed a hand on her chest "I'll let you figure it out on your own"
"Curiosity killed the cat"
"Good, then the shirt will deffo suite you!"
It was alexa's turn to open her gift, she received a metallic head band with silver leaves from lace. Lace got a big box filled with candy and snacks that she was ecstatic about from Zayden. Cayson's present to Zayden was a coffee mug that said 'Monopoly Master #2' -a joke back from the night we slept at Alexa's apartment- to which Zayden responded "EXCUSE ME?! I am THE number one monopoly master of all time"
"That's not what the mug says" Cayson smirked and Zayden narrowed his eyes at him.
Next to open their present was Cayson, he'd gotten two ties from Grace. Grace's gift was from me, I had gotten her one of those throw fluffy blankets from Target along with fluffy socks. Finally Marcella opened her present, it was a simple rose gold butterfly necklace, Zayden helped her put it on and they hugged.
Zayden stood up and the chatter around the room quieted down as we all payed our full attention towards him, Alexa also stood next to him. "I'd like to thank you all for coming and as cheesy as this sounds you guys are really like a second family, even a first to some" He turned towards Alexa when he said the last part and side hugged her. His words confused me and brought up a lot of questions. I knew Alexa was an only child and her parents were definitely not dead because a person doesn't just stop considering his parents family after they pass away.
"Cheers to that" Lace held up the cookie in her hand and then took a big chunk out of it
"This is really fun, I'm glad to be here" Grace spoke sincerely
Marcela got up and picked up a few things off the trolley and placed them on the round coffee table in the middle of the room. "I'll get the sticks so you guys can make some smores"
"Thanks Marcela" Zayden said and she patted him on the shoulder as she passed him by.
Suddenly, it clicked, and my eyes widened at my discovery "ZOMBIE!"
"Did you get it?" Alexa's mouth curved at it's ends
"Yes"
"Okay, now you have to explain" Lace said "I want to know what it means"
"The first time Lukas and I met we were at an open lecture and we each had our theory about a case being presented, he kept saying 'zombies?' each time I countered his theory"
"Smart."
"Satisfaction brought it back"
"What?" I asked
"Curiosity killed the cat; satisfaction brought it back"
