Nyla's POV
August 27th 2016
"That's such a stupid thing to say. I don't think anybody thinks like that." Dolly nudged me and laughed.
We were sitting on her bed and telling each other stupid stories. You'd think that our conversations were pulled out of a Teen Fiction novel.
"Think about it. It makes sense." I respond laughing back. She shakes her head and laughs again, then gets up from the bed.
"I'm gonna go get some fresh air. Like, real, fresh air." She asked me.
"Outside? Let me come too. I'm not staying here so that Zion comes in and gives me a shit ton of chores to do." I get up after her and straighten my jacket.
"Dude, You don't have to follow me. It doesn't matter what Zion says - I can protect myself."
I roll my eyes and smile. Dolly is different. She doesn't give in to orders or listen to what she's told. She's like a better version of me.
"Fine, just bring me back some beer." I shrug and she leaves the room.
I sigh, laying back down on the bed and staring up at the ceiling.
Everything has been so peaceful and so quiet inside, but outside? Malis is probably waiting for us. You know, that's what Zion thinks.
He's way too overprotective around here and I still have no idea why. What's so bad about going outside?
"We are under attack. Please report to the main hall immediately. I repeat, we are under arrack-"
See what I mean? These constant drills to see if we're somewhat prepared for an invasion. It's weird.
I got up out of the bed. I wasn't gonna rush to the main hall. It's a stupid drill, again.
I thought for a moment. Dolly knows where the main hall is, of course. She's not an idiot. She knows about these stupid drills so I won't go after her.
I opened the doors and walked towards the hall.
I got there and Zion pulled me in, locking the doors behind me.
"What the fuck?" I reply to him dragging me inside.
The rest were putting on their protective gear, which confused me.
"Nyla, we're under attack, and you couldn't have walked here any slower. What did I tell you guys about this? We have to be prepared." Zion screamed in my face.
My heart heated faster. Jeez, if I thought this was real I would've came here about ten minutes ago.
"Sorry, Captain." I replied, grabbing a gun and putting it in my holster.
"Where's Dolly?" Queno turned and asked me.
Someone was pounding on the door hard, causing dents to form from the other side.
"Open up, rebels-" a voice shouted from outside the door.
"Where's Dolly?" Zion said quietly to me.
Fuck. Fuck, fuck.
"She's.. she went outside." I spoke. My heart started beating faster.
"No. No,no - no. Open the doors Queno. Damnit, open the fucking doors." Zion screamed in her face.
"I can't. They're airtight shut and there's officers in the other side that would kill us if we-"
"I didn't ask for a backstory. Open the doors. Now." Zion looked at her right in her eyes. The anger returning to his face and Queno nodded hesitantly.
Hero joined Queno, helping her attempt to push the doors open.
Fuck. Fuck. Oh my God, I'm just hoping that Dolly isn't scared shitless.
"Get off me!" I heard her voice from the other side.
Zion pushed his ear against the door to listen.
"Dolly? Are you okay? Goddamn it." He pushed the door harder, causing it to fall out of the frame.
He ran into the hallway, looking right and left.
"Dolly?" I screamed, hoping I would hear a response.
Nothing.
Zion turned around and looked at me.
"This is your fault." He placed a finger on my chest, almost knocking me down.
"Zion,-"
"I told you all specifically that nobody's allowed outside. Why didn't you stop her?" he screamed at me.
"They took her. For fucks sake, they took her." His voice was loud and scary. He looked at me right in my eyes and I instantly felt scared.
He shook his head and turned away, storming back to his office.
"Nyla.." I felt Queno's hand on my shoulder but I shook it off.
I couldn't help the feeling of guilt that overcame me. I should've went with her. I should've stopped her from going. But how Malis has her and it's all my fault.
