I woke up to sirens and a flashing red light. It was a sound similar to your typical fire alarm and was blaring loudly in my ears.
After speaking with Queno last night I wandered back to the red centre last night, also known as my temporary room, and instantly fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
I got up out of bed, my head pounding due to the loud noise.
"What the fuck.." I mumbled to myself and I got out of bed.
"We are under attack. Report to the main room now. I repeat, we are under attack. Report to the main room now."
A female voice announced over the intercom as I opened the sliding doors.
The corridors were completely chaotic - most room doors were blocked and a digital sign read "Lockdown" in bold.
My heart started racing. Is this an invasion from Malis? This is what everyone was talking about. I'm gonna die, aren't I?
"Oh God. Oh, God." I didn't know which direction was the main hall, so I started running left.
I couldn't run very fast, I was never athletic. Oh my fucking God. I'm gonna die, aren't I? I'm gonna die because Malis knows I'm here and they're out to kill humans.
Suddenly, I turned right and found a familiar door with a sign above it that said "Main Hall." I ran into the room, panting and sweating.
They were all facing me; Nyla,Queno, Spire, Hero, Beam and Feras.
I looked up at them, confused. They all seemed surprisingly calm considering we were under attack.
"Mornin', Sunshine." Beam, the green one, spoke.
They all smiled at me, all except Spire an Nyla, and I shook my head.
"Aren't we, like, under attack or something?" I asked, still catching my breath after running for what felt like ten miles.
"Alyssa. Poor, poor Alyssa." Hero shook his head and smiled at me.
"It was a drill, Alyssa. Don't worry - we're not dying." Queno sat down on the purple chair."
"Even if we were under attack, I don't think that would be  appropriate attire for battle." Feras chuckled and took a seat beside Queno.
My face flushed bright red as I realised I was only in a simple nightdress up to my mid-thigh.
Spire shook his head and took his seat and Nyla stared at me coldly. She scoffed, and took a seat. I stood there awkwardly as Zion entered the room. The alarm stopped and he quickly paced to his own seat.
"Morning, everyone."
"Morning, Captain." they spoke simultaneously.
"Uh, morning.." I trailed behind, my face getting redder by the second. Fuck, why am I such an idiot?
"Spire, have you got any updates on the parts needed for the time machine?" Zion sat up in his seat.  His physique was sophisticated and boss - like, and I caught myself staring at his features in awe. His hair was a dark as midnight black and his eyes were green.
"I'm waiting on the throttle at the moment, sir. I also need some 4A screws and a blue laser. The throttle and the screws won't be too hard to find, but the laser is uncommon, and more than likely found within the wall of Malis." Spire passed Zion some paperwork and Zion sighed.
"We'll figure something out."
Spire nodded and crossed his arms.
"Did you manage to find out anything about the Police Force?" He spun his chair and faced Beam.
"Yeah. I found out that Torus is the new General."
Zion grunted and clenched his jaw. I observed his reaction - his facial features were sharp and like previously mentioned, attractive.
"That's not great news. We'll discuss more about Torus later."
I completely zoned out of their conversation. This whole thing was putting me to sleep. During their meeting, I primarily focused on Zion. His hair seemed curlier than usual, I was surprised I noticed that.
I noticed how he bit hit lips when he thought deeply, and how his eyes glistened when he smiled, and how the scar across his jaw was slowly fading. God, I noticed alot about him in that one sitting. Then I snapped out of my daydream when I heard my name being mentioned.
"..Is that all right, Alyssa?" he looked at me questionly.
They were all staring at me, waiting for an answer. I didn't want to embarass myseld again, so without thinking I answered.
"Uh.. yeah. Of course."
He smiled and faced the rest of the group, then stood up. "Great." he said, packing up his paperwork. "Meeting ajourned."
They all stood up and Zion approached me.
"Alyssa, if you need anything you know where to find me." he put his hand on my arm and smirked, then walked away.
Did he mean that in a flirty way or friendly? I thought, again and again.
Suddenly, Queno approached me. Before I had a chance to say anything she spoke; "By the way, Zion was asking you if it was okay if you trained with Feras for a while. Training starts in an hour." she winked at me and I glanced at her.
"How did you know-"
"I saw you completely eyeing Zion. Do you like him? Because I've been studying human behavior for a couple months now. I could tell when there's an obvious attraction."
I noticed that Queno always left me confused.
"Your face is red. You do, don't you? You two would look really cute together, just be careful. He's been bottling up his emotions lately with the whole Dolly thing."
"Queno, I don't like-"
"I can tell when someone's lying, too. Christ, Alyssa." she grinned at me and walked away.
Fuck, do I like Zion?
Probably.
I shook the thought out of my head and looked down at my torso. I probably need to get changed.

After a while, I finally found my room after I got lost about six times prior.
I changed into uniform; Black bomber jacket, Black jeans, black army boots and a red T-Shirt.
I put my hair up in a ponytail and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked tired. These past couple of days, I've been tired.
I sighed and was about to leave the room when the doors slid open by themselves.
Spire was standing there holding paperwork and was surprised to see me.
"Oh. I thought Zion was here." he stared at me blankly and was about to turn and leave.
"Spire, right?" I questioned him. He turned to face me and nodded his head.
"Do you hate me?" I asked.
He was surprised.
"I'm not even programmed to hate, Alyssa."
"Programmed? What, are you guys robots?"
"No, we're not robots. Are we done here?"
"Look, I can tell you don't like me. Is it something I said? I mean I'm gonna be here for a while, might as well get along now."
He stepped in closer and looked at me in my eyes.
"Are you from Malis?"
I shook my head. "2016 doesn't seem too close to Malis, so no."
He rolled his eyes at my sarcasm and stepped in closer.
"Are you sure you don't want to change your answer?"
My heart was beating fast in my chest.
"No."
"Then why is your face the same colour as your T-Shirt?"
"I turn red when I'm being interrogated by guys in orange who wear glasses. We done here?" I repeated his words and turned my head to the side.
"Spire, stop flirting with the recruit." Beam came out from the corner and smiled.
I wasn't even moved by his comment and could already feel that my and Spire's relationship wouldn't be swell.
Spire crossed his arms and stepped back. "Whatever. I'm going to the lab to work on some stuff."
Beam waved him goodbye and faced me.
"Why, hello Alyssa." he smiled genuinely and I smiled back, sheepishly.
Nice guy, Beam.
"I'm here to take you to the training Arena for your stelth test with Feras."
I nodded my head and looked up at him. "Thanks. I really think I need a map here."
He chuckled and we were on our way.
"Hey, don't worry about Spire. He could be a little cold at times, but it's only because he's kind of paranoid."
"Yeah, I've noticed."
"Once you get to know him though, he's great.
We walked alongside eachother. For a while, there was a comfortable silence.
"So, how are things so far? I hope you're settling in okay. Has Queno showed you around yet?"
I shook my head. "No, there are like a billion rooms. I don't even know how you guys don't constantly get lost."
He smiled at me and spoke. "Yeah, it took me a while to get used to this place. You know, I'm the newest member to this crew. Before you, of course. It was hard getting used to things, but everything's good."
I looked up at him. "Oh, I just assumed you all came here together. How were you recruited?"
"I was, uh, I was homeless."
"Oh."
"Yeah, it's not like I'm an orphan or anything. My parents just happen to work at Malis."
"Oh."
He chuckled. "Yeah, that's what everyone says as soon as I tell them. But enough about me, what about you?"
I sighed. "Well, I'm twenty one years old, still in college, and I never knew my birth parents."
He scratched his head. "Oh. I'm sorry about that. If you want to find out who they are and exactly where they are, we have special tracking and identification devices that can help with that."
I shook my head.
"Nah, I think it's better off not knowing who they are. Besides, I'm probably gonna be here for a while anyway."
We arrived at the arena, where Hero, Feras and Zion were.
Feras was setting up equipment  and Hero was lifting weights, with Zion whom wasn't wearing a shirt.
Great, isn't it?
"Try not to stare too much." Beam said to me and my face flushed, again.
"I wasn't-"
"Keep telling yourself that. Anyways, I'll see you in couple of hours."
I didn't get a chance to explain myself and Beam left the arena.
I stared at Zion in awe, up until he caught me staring and I looked away. My face, of fucking course, turned red.
This day is going great.
