Chapter 4

'I'm so sorry'

***

Louis made his way to lay on the soft bed the sweet nurse prepared for him. It wasn't as comfortable as he thought but it's something at least.

He forces his body to pressure itself against the mattress. But his thoughts are corrupting him. Every single concern, possibility and theory obstruct Louis from closing his enervating eyes. He is afraid that if he shuts them, that Liam will slip away from his hands.

Yet Louis wasn't the only one passing through this process, so was Liam's parents, Karen and Geoff. Karen was silently crying in her bed, imagines of her son passing away were flying through her mind. Geoff trying to calm her unsoothed soul. Although he didn't show his emotions physically and/or verbally. Geoff was burning with rage. None of this will have occured if Louis didn't force Liam into having a liver transplant. His son would've been here alongside his father, chatting away on conversations that made no absolute sense, instead of in a hospital, lying on a bed lifeless. Nothing made significance. In his mind everything was Louis' fault. But at this moment he could not undertake any ideas on ridding of Louis from his son's life, he had to remain put, for the sake of his own family.

Morning arises and Louis was still wide awake. He never shut his eyes, not even for a millisecond. His mind flooded with burdens, when the attendant from last night enters the reticent white hospital room. Louis did not take note of the woman standing beside him, he kept staring intently at his young lover, streaks of water still falling from his cerulean orbs. The nurse couldn't help but feel pity for this boy. Never has she seen such love and admiration, most people would leave the patients as if they were nothing, but the doncaster lad stayed in the exact same position as the last time she entered the room for a check up on the youngsters. "Excuse me, uhm,"

"Louis." Louis muttered his name to the older female alongside of him. He noted he never told her his name.

"Louis. Well I'm just going to check his heart monitor, IV and wires. Are you okay? Do you want anything to eat?" She glanced over to Louis.

"I'm fine and I'm not hungry actually. " Lies. He isn't fine, and he was starving. Louis just wasn't in the mood to actually eat. Afraid that if he did he would vomit it all out with all his worrying.

"Oh. Okay." Sarah, the attendant, knew he was lying. Over the years she's heard patients say it all the time. She could easily tell if one was lying or not.

She exits the room and in comes Karen. "Morning sweetheart. How are we holding up?"

"I'm tired but I'm fine. Liam was alright through the night." Louis answered truthfully. Of course he would know Liam was perfectly fine, he watched him the whole night.

"Oh Honey.. You need sleep. I want you to rest, alright?" She considered but only to recieve nothing from Louis. "Hun.. Hunn.. "

"Oh sorry. What did you say?" Louis lowered his head as if he were put to shame.

"I said 'You need to rest' ." She whispered sweetly. Although Liam was her son, she couldn't help but feel as if Louis were hers as well. Louis' father wasn't very delighted when Louis shared the news of his newfound sexuality, he was kicked out and Karen took him into her home when liam found him on the streets.

"But-" Louis was about to refuse, his instincts told him not to do that to Karen because she'll never take no for an answer. So he shut his mouth quickly when he saw the expression on her face.

"Did you eat? You didnt eat yet.. I'm calling Zayn to come pick you up. You need to eat as well as rest." She spoke rather quickly, making Louis dizzy.

"I don't need to- No, you're going to rest Louis. Im being serious." Karen scolded the younger lad. Louis huffed in annoyance.

"Fine, fine I'll go ..." Louis muttered while he excused himself to use the restroom.

He enters the restroom and does his business like any other. While he began to wash his hands, he heard a voice of a male "Ahh Yes... You're the young lad I spoke to yesterday wasn't it?" the voice boomed from the entrance of the room. Louis didn't recognize the voice until he turned his body towards the door. "I've been meaning to speak with you and .. Are his parents here?" It was the surgeon from last night.

"Yeah they're here, they're in his room." Louis rambled quickly finishing the deed of rinsing his hands. And the doctor was no where to be seen. He quickly went to inform the Payne's of the new found information.

Louis' phone began vibrating in his pocket.

'Hello?'

'Ei Louis' Im in front of the hospital. Karen called to tell me to take you home.'

'I'll be down in a sec.'

'well hurry because there is some security telling me i have to move my car. Be quick.'

'Alright alright I'm coming'

He hung up the phone and jetted towards the exit. He jumped into the back seat as Zayn zoomed out of the lot. Louis decided to text Karen that he left already. There was a doubt in the back of his mind. Something was telling him he should've stayed to hear what the doctor had to report.

"Shit I should've stayed." Louis snarled out loud to myself, leaving Zayn utterly confused.
