Lauren was an early riser, she sat at her easel with a Disney mug filled with hot tea. Camila's cardigan was draped over her body, and she wore a black t-shirt with a pair of plaid pajama pants under it. She was in the process of drawing a rose when the door bell rang.
She was confused, who would be at the door this early. Lauren cautiously moved towards the door cracking it open slightly. "Hello?" She peeped out the crack.
"Hi, Lauren?" A Hispanic man asked.
"Who are you?" Lauren asked, hopefully she didn't sound rude.
"I'm Alejandro, Camila's father." He explained.
She actually studied him now, she remembered seeing a picture of Sof and Camila from a couple years ago with their father. She didn't realize how familiar the man was.
"Oh, I'm so sorry Mr. Cabello. I was just a little confused on why someone was knocking on my door at this time." Lauren smiled, sheepishly.
"It's okay, and call me Alejandro. You're basically family now." The man smiled.
"Lauren, who's at the door?" Camila rasped from the landing on the stairs.
"Mija?" Alejandro called out.
"Dad?" Lauren could hear the excitement in Camila's voice.
Camila ran to her father, in a hug.
"What are you doing in Ohio?" Camila asked.
"I wanted to be closer to you, and I wanted to meet the woman who my daughter fell in love with." Alejandro smiled.
Lauren's face turned a light shade of pink at his words.
"Do you want some tea? Coffee?" Lauren asked both Cabellos.
"I'll get it lo," Camila started.
"No catch up with your dad, I'll go make it." Lauren shushed Camila and nudged her towards the kitchen table to sit down.
"This is a beautiful home," Alejandro complimented looking around the architecture.
"Thank you, now come on dad." Camila pulled her dad to sit down at the table.
Lauren listened patiently as she made some tea in the microwave, it was always quicker that way.
"I brought your sister up here, since Bea she's been out of control drinking. She's taking classes online now." Alejandro explained.
"My work offered me a transfer here when I tried to put my notice in, so I took it." He went on.
Lauren sat down in the seat opposite of Alejandro, while Camila sat at the head of the table. "I don't want Sofia going down that road, she's got so much in stored for her and it's illegal." Alejandro reminded the two that Sof was going on 20.
Camila fidgeted with her cup of tea for a while, on the other hand Lauren and Alejandro downed their's.
"Lauren, are you into any sports teams?" Alejandro asked his daughter's girlfriend.
"Miami Sharks." She replied. (I don't know if this is a real team or not)
"Really? My favorite." Alejandro and Lauren started to bond over soccer.
Lauren had always played, during grade school, junior high and through high school, all the way up to college. Well, until she was kicked off the team for her alcoholic problems. She really hoped Sofi would turn herself around and cut out alcohol, Lauren saw Sofi as her own little sister. She would never wish it on Sofi or her actual siblings.
