I walked into my house with Amber by my side. "Do you want anything to eat or drink?"
"No, I'm good, thanks though. What do you usually do when you're at home?" She walked over to the living room couch and sat, looking at me.
"Usually I'm just on my laptop reading, or skyping Andrea." I shrugged. I went to my room and grabbed my laptop, bringing it down and sitting next to her. "What do you usually do when you're at home?"
"Practice cheerleading... But I have something else in mind right now." She scooted closer and set my laptop on the coffee table, swinging her leg to my other side so she straddled my lap.
"Just like in the hospital, ay?" I set my hands on her hips, leaning our foreheads together. "Seems like ever since you found out I'm gay, you can't really keep your hands off me."
"Why would I want to keep my hands off the person I like?" A smile broke out on my face, no matter how hard I tried keeping it back. "I've told you before how there was this girl I like... and it's you. Of course I want to hold you and kiss you and—"
"Oh shut up." I rolled my eyes and smiled, softly kissing her. The front door opened and I slowly broke apart, grinning. "Grandma!" I set Amber on the couch and got up, running over and hugging her. "I thought the mums were staying over at your house tonight?"
"They were, dear, but we were all worried about you. How are you, are you okay? How's your head?" She let go and checked the back of my head as Sam and Dani brought in grandmas overnight bag, setting it on the coffee table near my laptop. Her hands left my head. "Who's this?"
I turned and smiled at a blushing Amber. "Grandma, this is Amber. Amber, this is Danis mum, Annabelle, my grandma."
I put my arm out and she smiled, getting up and walking over, taking my hand. She raised her other hand to Grandma. "Even though she said this, I'm Amber. It's nice to meet you, Mrs. Smith."
Grandma looked at our hands then pulled Amber into a hug. "You can just call me grandma, okay dear?"
Amber giggled and let go of my hand, hugging her back. "Of course, grandma."
She smiled and pulled away, Amber taking my hand again. "I see that being gay runs in the family." She rose an eyebrow at me.
I softly blushed and hid a little behind Amber. "I'm sorry I never told you. I just told mums the other day, honestly. I was going to tell you next time I saw you."
She rolled her eyes and kissed my head. "I'm not mad, dear. I'm glad you found someone."
"Yeah... And me and this someone will be in my room." I giggled and grabbed my laptop, running to my room with Amber behind me.
She sat criss-cross on my bed as I leaned against the headboard, copying her. "So if that was Danis mom, where's Sams?"
"Sams parents aren't in the picture. They uh... When Sam told them she was gay, they kicked her out."
"Oh my god. Who would do that?"
I bit my lip and looked down, before looking back up. "Your dad, maybe? Amber, as much as I like you, I know you love your dad. If he's as homophobic as you say he is, I don't want anything bad to happen to you, and if he tries kicking you out, I know Andreas mom won't let him, and I don't want to be the cause of their divorce before they even get married."
She was quiet for a few moments, probably deep in thought, before changing positions and sitting next to me. "Avery, I'll talk to Andrea about this, okay? I'm not going to hide who I am and the girl I like because my dad is homophobic. I do love him, very much, but if he can't accept who I am, then why should I accept him as a father?" I leaned over and laid my head on her shoulder, curling against her. She wrapped her arms around my waist and held me close. I really hope I don't screw anything up.
