Chapter Eighteen: Locked up

My head hurt incredibly when I woke up. My vision was blurred and I blinked several times with my eyes to clear it. I was in what looked like an old dungeon room with no windows. I was laying on a bunk bed and there was no light. It was only because of my werewolf vision I could even see anything. My sensitive eyes caught the few particles of light in the air and showed me the room in very dim light.

I looked down myself. I was in a grey jumpsuit, not my running clothes. Then I remembered. The transformation. I had turned into a hawk, I think. My claws had looked hawk-like and my wings had been long and golden. It sent chills down my neck to know I probably had been naked and someone had dressed me. Luckily my body was only bruised and sore and my arm cut, but all that was from the fight. No one had played with me.

It was weird I had changed into a bird. I had never heard of anyone that could do that. Looking back it was undoubtedly the reason Julie was okay. Had I changed into a werewolf like I planned to, they would have jumped us and I wouldn’t have been able to get her out. Maybe that’s why I changed into a bird, the first time I changed into a wolf was also when I had needed it and had no other way out. Maybe I could take on numerous shapes.

I got up and walked to the door, every muscle in my body protesting. I looked out but I just was a long hallway, no light there either. My throat was dry as the desert and my stomach was rumbling for food. I wondered how long I had been here, maybe even for days.

Shit! If that was true, destiny day was near. I might not have a long before I would have to face The Lady. I was pretty sure she was the one who had locked me up. Making sure I didn’t have any more time for practicing. It worried me that her werewolf-henchmen had found me so quickly after Ryan and James had visited. They might have been followed or even revealed my location. The Lady was the kind of woman that could pry information out of almost anyone. But I trusted those guys, James was my blood and Ryan was… well, he was my Ryan. They wouldn’t have betrayed me, I decided.

Later, a tray with bread and water got pushed through the hole in the door by a vampire. The vampire moved too fast for me to say anything and I had the feeling that was what The Lady wanted. She was afraid I might sweet talk my way out; she thought more of me than I did.

A couple of days went by and I was annoyed I didn’t know how long I had been out, two hours or two days? Different vampires kept giving me food and water and none of it was poisoned even though I had thought so at first. Anyway I had to eat and drink otherwise I wouldn’t survive. She gave me just enough food so I didn’t starve but kept it impossible for me to be at my full potential.

After four days in captive something happened. A vampire appeared with my food but she didn’t drop it off quickly and hurried back. She stood by the door, tray in hand and asked me to stand up. I got up slowly and watched her every move. Not that she made any; she was a still as a statuette.

“Who are you?” I asked with a husky voice. I hadn’t used it much in the last few days. Only when I was yelling, hoping it would annoy any vampires that might be resting nearby.

She was beautiful, looking like a model and wearing a dark blue dress that showed off her great body. Her eyes were brown and her hair blond and she spoke with the same British accent as James.

“I’m Rose and I’m Sir Gent’s personal assistant,” the pretty vampire said.

“Who’s Sir Gent?” I asked. Was it possible someone else than The Lady had captured me? No, wait. Ryan had said something about locking me up until it was all over, but he hadn’t been serious, had he?

“The second vampire to be born,” she answered with awe, “and he would like to meet you. But first we have to make you presentable.”

She unlocked the door quickly and jumped in and caught me before I could react. She was old maybe just a little younger than James. She took me to a dressing room with a bath and threw me into a shower and started the hot water. I was paralyzed but couldn’t help but enjoy it. I had been sweaty from my run and the fight and then spend days in a tiny, filthy room.
