As I walked to the house I used my talisman to open the border spell and to let my coven know that I've arrived. A talisman is an object, typically an inscribed ring or stone, that has magic powers and brings good luck to the wearer. But for me, mine is a necklace that has the Chinese zodiac signs on the outer ring, the phases of the moon on the inner ring, and the center has a face connecting to my family crest in a big circle.
The way that a enchanter gets their talisman is by doing a ceremony at the date and time of one's birth down to the minute on their thirteenth birthday. Then during some point of time after, they happen to find a piece of jewelry that has not existed before and in their respective form of element. These pendants are usually accompanied by some sort of animal that will not give up the adornment to anyone but their master. These animals are what we in the magical world call familiers.
"Lori, Lori! I finally got my talisman!" My younger sister Tabatha almost screeched as she pounced on me from the top of our home's steps. "Finally, the ceremony was almost three months ago! Now can you aid me in the spell planned for tonight." "What spell Lori?" She asked as she played around in her pocket. "I know that it is very sudden, but tonight is the last blood moon for one hundred and seventy six days, almost a whole year. And this spell requires it to be a blood moon and we already have everything." I told her when I gently set her down and continued to the cauldron around the corner. "What have you gotten yourself into, Lori? Liam has been telling everyone that you're a witch!" One of my five circle members, Adriana, voiced as she stomped into the house through the back door.
You might ask what the difference between a coven and a circle is. Well, a coven is all of the witches and wizards together that are in the same area; except who have forsaken the coven and led sinful lives without the protection of their equivalents. But a circle is the people that is the same age as you, with an exception of two years. So if you are one of the oldest in your circle, you can only have ages one or two years younger than you, and the opposite for the youngest. My circle only has five, but my smallest brother, who is only two years old, has fourteen members in his circle. The way we keep having circles is our parents have at least two children every three years; usually a year apart, but many things there are twins. My brother Joseph's wife gave birth to quadruplets about three years ago; so if they choose, they can not have another child for six years.
"Liam had a wife, Adriana. He had a wife and now I am pregnant with his child!" I screamed as I fell to the floor in agony. She ran the short distance she had to to make sure nothing bad happened to the child. "Honey, I need you to calm down. We do not work by their law. You will not be shamed for having this bastard child. Just hide it from Liam and his she-devil."
She placed her hand on my enlarged stomach. "You are about to give birth and can't prolong it, nor reduce the miracle of life." "Adriana you said so yourself, Liam has been spreading his distortion. He and his other half have told the people that I am a danger. He's leading me to the gallows as if a cow to be slaughtered! So I will have to enlist the coven to place a curse after my babe is born." She quickly released me as she realized what I had planned to do.
"Lori, you need to be considerate right now. What about the baby? What-" "I shall go into hiding until then, but once it is born, I want you to take it, Addie."
I suppose she finally understood the desperation of my position as she looked me in the eyes, held my hands and spoke. "I, Adriana Millicent Abell, take an oath to Loribelle Alice Galey to protect her child with my own. To aid and guide it in sickness and in health. And love it with the utmost devotion. And if by request, honor the mother everyday after her passing." With eyes welling with unshed tears I spoke with a trembling voice. "I, Loribelle Alice Galey, accept Adriana Millicent Abell's oath. I must demand that the child not know of their true lineage. Honer me as if a sister or aunt; but never as a mother."
Adriana nodded her head and drag the sharp dagger-like edge of her ring talisman across her left palm in an 'x' motion before doing the same to my right. This motion represents unity of the non written contract that can never be broken. "May I ask when you are to come back so that we may prepare the next generation?" She asked, still looking down at our matching hands. "Two hundred and thirty years, my friend."
"Why so soon? Honey I do hope you make me the godmother. You know, just incase something happens to poor 'replacement mom'." Elizabeth Johnson said as she strutted herself into the room through the back entrance. Elizabeth and I have been one ever since she arrived in Massachusetts. January twentieth sixteen eighty. Though Addie really didn't have the temper to put up with Ellie, she cracked a smile at her fetel attempt at a joke. Then I noticed that Tabitha had never left the room throughout that escapade. Just sat in one of the foot stools nearer to the door than what she originally was. The only thing that was different was that a small rabbit sat in her lap, staring up intentaly at her as she did to it. Then, I felt a presence in the room that was all too familiar and reassuring. Just then did Elizabeth say, "Oh, and I met a friend on the way. He may or may not have been trying to tear a leg off of your... ex-suitor? I have no idea what you want to call him, and I don't care as long as you never call him for dinner again. Got it?" And like that, she was gone, on her way out. Then he came in.

"You, woman, may just be the end of me." He spoke telepathically. "Well, it's not my fault that he was a dalcop bedswerving cumberworld!" I responded in the same fashion. "Wow. I can't believe that you think so low of him. You were head over heels for the bloke and now, "death to all who oppose me!" "Tikaani, I think you missed the point of which I heard that you tried to tear his leg off?" "She said may have. There was no actual confirmation that I was. Plus, I could feel your hatred towards him. So in all honesty, it's your fault, now isn't it?"
All I could think about at this point was ripping his body limb-from-limb. I have this aching in my-well, everywhere that counts- to kill him. Have his blood on my dainty hands. To prove that I am not devastated by his betrayal; I will live to see another day... just not in this body.
"What am I to do, Ellie? I am so confused!" I looked up to her as I released my familiar's mind contact. "I think that you should proceed with the spell with the coven. I'll even ask my brood for help if needed." She exclaimed as took my hands in hers.
