A short story

Inhaling and exhaling was all he could do for hours, caught in an abyss of utter darkness he thought of no way out. Finn listened to what his therapist told him, clear your thoughts and take deep breaths but it didn't seem to be working. Eventually he stood up and got in his car, although it was as if he wasn't the one controlling his body. After a minute Finn stopped at a local path where joggers and bikers could be seen everyday from his window just a mile up the road.  He walked down the path to sign that read: Reflection Lake. Before Finn knew what he was doing he ran into the lake for his body was hot and filled with anger. He couldn't contain his emotions any longer and he thought the lake would cool him. No one was around and the canyon finally felt as hollow as his soul. He couldn't stand the world he was living in, Finn wanted to tear it to bits. Not once but hundreds of times had he been deceived when all he had was good intentions for others. All along his heart had been good and yet no one cared. He screamed for the empty promises that she had made to him right before she left never to be seen again. And he cried for the friends who he thought would always be with him. Then finally he held his breath under the water for all the times everyone made him feel worthless. The lake echoed all his actions and made him feel loved. He had been cooled by the earth and walked out of the lake wet. Finn got into his car and drove home, where of course he was questioned. Although in that moment Finn didn't care, he had finally come to peace with himself. The scars that filled his wrists no longer mattered and the bruises that lined his back no longer hurt. All he knew was that one day he would be better than all those who put him down. "Those who took advantage of me will regret it" he thought, for they would no longer be yelling at him. Rather he would be yelling at them and they would wonder why they had not been nicer to him. Because that's what people do he realized they use you when convenient and leave you when their done...
