Chapter 2 - Over-Protective Brothers
~Carrie's Point of View~
I continued to walk through the rain, in search for food. My stomach had growled at me so much, I actually started to believe it was growling at me in anger. I reached into my pocket and felt around. I pulled out a wrinkly old dollar. One dollar... What would that do me?
I walked further until I found a dollar store. I walked inside and searched around for something to eat. Chocolate bar? Nah. Ice cream? No... Cereal? Oh, yes!
I grabbed a box of fruit loops and took it to the check out then bought it.
"That would be a dollar and seven cents," the check out lady said.
"Where'd the seven cents come from?" I asked, furrowing my eye brows.
"Taxes," she replied, blankly.
"But I only have a dollar and I'm starving," I told her.
"I'll let you get by with it," she whispered. I smiled at her and gave her the dollar. Then I left the store and walked further down the street while popping fruit loops into my mouth. I then saw a man leaning against a brick wall. His clothes were all ripped up and his body looked like he was covered in dirt. He coughed really hard then sneezed. He pulled his small blanket over him but shivered.
"Are you hungry?" I asked the guy who I assumed was homeless just like me.
"As always," he chuckled with a weak smile.
"Here, have the rest of my cereal," I placed the box down beside him.
"I can't take that," he refused.
"No, it's fine, I'm full anyways," I nodded.
"Thanks, something equally as great will come to you very soon!" He smiled.
"I hope so," I whispered.

The sun shined onto my closed eyelids and forced them open. I sighed as I rose up from my spot on the bench. I had found a bench that had a roof over it and chose to sleep there.
I walked down the side walk but froze when I saw a crowd of girls screaming and squealing. They seemed to be chasing about 6 people who had wide eyes and were running for their lives. I rushed over to the alleyway next to me and hid. I was waiting for them to run by and when they did, I snatched one of their hands and pulled them towards me.

"Kids, get up!" I heard mom yell at us. I shot up, bumping my head on the ceiling above me.
"Ow..." I whispered and got out of my bed while rubbing my head. Everyone stumbled out of their beds and walked into the living room section of the bus.
"We're almost home and we needed to do a little shopping while we were already out, so we were wondering if you all wanted us to drop you off somewhere for a bit," mom announced.
"Yeah, that sounds cool," Riker nodded.
"But where?" Rocky asked. As if on a cue, someone's stomach growled and all eyes shot to Ratliff.
I laughed, "maybe we should get breakfast."
"Pancakes sound really good right now!" Ryland added.
"We should go to IHop!" Rydel suggested. Everyone agreed and Dad drove us off to the nearest IHop while we got dressed. I brushed my teeth then changed into a decent set of clothes. Once everyone was dressed, Dad was pulling over to let us out.
