Chapter 4 - I'm Here For You
~Ross's Point of View~
"Wait? So you're saying that our friends that were supposed to be here are... D-dead?!"
Carrie nodded before standing up and running out our front door. I glance at my parents who were now holding each other and crying. I got up and chased her out the door. When I got outside, she didnt seem to be anywhere in sight, but I could hear her quiet uncontrollable sobs. I continued to look around until I found her sitting by the road. Then I walked over to her and sat down beside her. The first thing I knew I had to do was hug her and that's exactly what I did. I hugged her. It took her a second before she hugged me back, tightly, while crying into my chest. I knew that I had to somehow find the words to cheer her up, so here goes nothing.
"You know, we grew up together for a small amount of time but we were too little to remember," I said. She nodded against my chest. Her tears kept falling and seemed to have no intentions of stopping.
I caress her back with my hand, "They're in a better place now, they're still here with you and they are still watching over you."
"How do you know?" She sniffled, leaning back so she could see my face.
"Because they love you and care about you," I told her.
"Thanks Ross, for trying to cheer me up, but I know this will forever hurt me," she mumbled, staring at the ground.
I gulped. What do I say now?
"I'm here for you, though, anytime you need a shoulder, You've got mine," I promised her.
"Thanks," she gave a weak smile and wiped away all the tears that had fallen. She released her arms from me and crossed them. I noticed she started shaking a little.
"Are you cold?" I asked. Wow, that was a stupid question. Of course she's cold, she's shivering!
"Yeah, a little," she shrugged.
"Here, wear my hoodie!" I pulled my hoodie over my head. The night did seem a little chilly even though it was summer.
"No, it's ok," she refused.
"You're cold, put it on," I tossed it to her.
"Thanks," she chuckled lightly and put it on. She then put her head on my shoulder and we sat there in silence for a few minutes.
"Are you ok now?" I questioned her. I had my head leaning on her head.
"Yeah, I feel a little better now," she nodded against my shoulder, "I just didn't know you guys were the ones I was going to spend the summer with."
"Yeah, I know, it surprised me too," I agreed, "Do you want to head inside?"
"Yeah, sure," she stood up, holding her hand out to help me up. I took it and stood up. We slowly walked inside. Everyone was talking and mom had calmed down. Once the door shut, all eyes turned to us.
"Carrie, are you ok?" Rydel cooed, running up to her and hugging her.
"Yeah, I'm ok," she smiled weakly at her. Rydel threw her arm around her shoulder and led her up the stairs.
"Are you ok, mom?" I asked her.
She nodded, "I just can't believe they're gone."
"Even though they're gone, at least we've got her daughter safe and sound," I admit, sitting down next to her.
"That's true, I'm glad you all met her the way you did, we can protect her here; It's the least your father and I could do for the Davenport's," she confessed, giving me a side hug.
