'Good morning Titans' said Jay as his voice blurred through the speakers. My ankles were still begging for mercy from yesterday's torture, I wished I could have worn my comfortable bunny slippers instead. I opened my locker and looked at the books inside and it was starting to feel a lot like me and less of a jock's locker. I could feel there was someone behind me and I turned and I found Lenny behind me. 'Sorry. Wrong locker' I nodded, I wasn't into long talks about finding your way around school again. I closed my locker and the key automatically locked and I walked towards my first class Algebra. I saw someone I vaguely recognized and I looked at the end of the hallway where I was going to turn and walk another several feet before I was in Mrs Jackson's class. My attention was continually disturbed by the sound of his converses squeaking on the ceramic floor. He moved for his lane into mine and he planted himself right in front of me.
'The battle has started and it's going to continue whether you like or not' he said before he smiled and he brushed his hair from his face. I was stuck in this loophole again. 'Excuse me but who are you?' He looked at me shocked.
'You should know your enemy' he said and I looked at him puzzled. 'Are you the guy who never finished that Wattpad story? You jerk'
'What Wattpad story?' he asked with his eyebrow up and his clear brown eyes starred into me. 'What's Wattpad?' I relaxed my shoulders and I looked at him. 'So you are not that jerk. Well then you are not my enemy' I stretched my hand and I jingled my charm bracelet so that I could see the time. 'I'm late for my class' I walked away from him and I headed to Algebra class and I sat at the back. Mr Jackson is the best Algebra class, hands down. He walked in his 3 piece Italian suit and his hair was silver and he carried a leather briefcase. He looked like the epitome of the roaring 20's gentleman. 'Ladies and gentleman please do open you Algebra textbooks and turn to page 46' His voice was smooth and oozed confidence something our generation desperately needed. He smiled at all of us and his teeth were pearly white.
'Luisa I hear you got some sort of prestige' he said as he wrote on the chalk board. I could feel the attention shifting from Mr Jackson to me.
'It's bad luck not prestige' I said as I tapped my book with my pencil. He chuckled and he looked at the book again and he wrote on the board again. '2x + 7yx=' he paused and he turned and he looked at the back. 'The battle about which sex is the strongest has been going on for ages. Madam Currie even fought against the struggle, Mulan and she is real as a person gets clothed herself as man and she proved which sex was stronger, in the Greek Mythology Athena and Poisedon were after the same position and Athena got it at the end' He looked at the board and he wrote again. I looked down and I shook my head. This year was starting on another level, I was getting a pep talk from Mr Jackson, the only gentleman in the history of the school.
I sat down by myself during lunch and today I had choose to sit outside and my phone rang, he was right on time like a clock and I answered my phone.
'Hey Stranger' I said as I answered my phone and I picked the grape from my lunchbox. 'I bit into it and I waited for him to respond. 'Bonjour Mademoiselle' he said as his voice coated my speaker. This was the reason why a lot of girls had heard their hearts broken. 'How is the makeover treating you?'
I looked around the school and 1 and half years in this place and I had managed to stay hidden and I had made 1 friend and we had met in church. 'Still a failure with the fairer sex' I shrugged. 'Should I come and help?' he suggested and the headlines from my last school flashed through my mind. 'Thanks, I will manage. I spit the seed out and I picked my juice box and I pierced the silver foil on top with the straw and I sucked the litchi juice out. 'How are the guys going? You guys still have your lingerie collection?'
He chuckled. 'Nope....he paused...We got rid of it. I now go to church. How is Mr Luisa?' I looked at the juice box. 'Suffering from withdrawal but he doesn't want to admit. You know he is' He chuckled again. 'How is my junkie doing?' I laughed. 'I will survive.. yes I will survive' My hands trembled as I held the juice box. 'What's new?' he asked. 'I have bad luck' I sighed and I enjoyed the melodramatic moment with the King of MeloDrama himself and it felt normal. 'What happened?' he asked quickly and I could hear the sound of leather sofa as he fidgeted. 'I got chosen to represent the girls some medieval antic games' I sucked the litchi juice again and I slurped as I finished my juice. 'Don't judge them so quick' said KM. 'Take a long drive and be alone for a while and then make a decision' I paused. 'I have to go' I hung up.
I opened the garage and I looked at the pieces of steel that were left and I smiled. Dad and I were always going to be junkies in search for some peace and quiet while our hearts longed for the smell of the burnt tyres and fuel. I ran my fingers on the outline of what was covered by sheets. I sat down cross legged and I looked at the last memento of the world that we had left behind and from down here is seemed like it was worth it again. I shook my head, not now and my blog must have died a natural death, I stopped posting and people must have stopped following. There was that feel of the wind in my hair that I wanted to feel all over again.
'Roxy' said Dad as he closed the front door. 'Roxy are you home?' I stood up and I opened the door. 'Baby what happened?'
'I need a fix' I said as I right hand scratched my left wrist. He walked up to me and he hugged me tightly. 'I'm sorry you are trapped here Fiore' My father had to give up calling me by my favourite name. 'I'm miss the freightliner'
I walked back to school with my red t-shirt and black glasses and something matched my red lollipop. 'You are wearing glasses' I pulled them down a bit and he starred at me. 'What's wrong?'
'I didn't sleep' I said and Jay opened his bag and took out his tumbler and I knew it had the smoothie that Mrs Silvers prepared with love. 'Drink this it always wakes me up' I took the tumbler and I took a sip.
'That mint and watermelon sure hit the spot' I said as I gave it back to him. He shook his head. 'I have had enough of that smoothie'
