I stood outside Ely's door, shaking, thinking about ringing the doorbell, then drawing my hand back away and I had been doing so for five minutes.
I admit, I was incredibly nervous. For one, I had never been on a date before. Two, I had never really had a guy like me. And three, I had never even had my first kiss.
After a couple more minutes of bickering with myself, I held my breath and rang the door bell. A few seconds later and older woman opened the door, who I assumed was Ely and Mac's mother.
"Hi Darling. You must be Cassie. It's nice to meet you! I'm Mrs. Kelley, come in." She said in a soft voice.
I walked inside and was awed at the amazing house. Right in the entry was was a giant, glittering, crystal chandelier hanging over the top of a staircase with lovely black metal railings on the side. I followed Mrs. Kelley to the kitchen where I saw Ely standing in front of the oven and Mac sitting at a table close by. When she saw me she practically yelled, "Cassie's here!' Right after she yelled I heard a large crash to the left of me. I looked in the direction that the noise had come from and I saw Ely, wearing a black button up shirt, just staring at the ground.
'Are you going to pick that up?" I asked, while I was laughing.
He instantly snapped out of his daze and looked up at me.
He blinked a few times before answering, "Oh, uh, yeah."
I continued laughing to myself and walked over to Mac. She opened her arms for a hug and I gladly accepted it. While she hugged me I whispered in her ear, "Is Ely okay?"
Mac pulled away from the hug and laughed, "Yeah, he is fine. I think..."
"I'm going to go over there and talk to him."
"Okay, I'm going to my room. Come say goodbye to me before you leave!"
I walked over to the island in the middle of the kitchen and leaned against it, "Hey Ely. You okay?"
He looked at me, "I'm fine Cass. And you," He smiled, "You look beautiful."
I couldn't even answer him. I had never been called beautiful by a guy before, other than the men in my family. I had heard guys comment to their friends that I was 'hot' or 'fine", but had never been called beautiful. Also, I was pretty sure that I was smiling like a complete idiot.
After a minute of composing myself, I answered, "You don't look too bad yourself"
Actually, that was an understatement. He looked amazing, gorgeous even. He was wearing a nice black button up, some jeans, and black boots. I also noticed that he had a couple bracelets on too.
He chuckled, "Do you wanna sit down? Dinner's almost ready. I'm just waiting for the garlic bread to finish cooking."
He gestured over to the table and I walked in front of him and sat down while he slowly scooted in next to me.
We sat there, for what felt like an hour, in complete silence.
Finally, after contemplation, I said something.
"Ely, I'm not sure what this whole thing is, like if it's a date, or just two friends hanging out. But I do know that I don't want to sit here in complete silence or for this thing, whatever it is, to end up being weird."
Ely let out a massive breath and answered, "Oh thank God. I was so afraid this was going to be awkward. I don't know what this is either, but let's just see where it goes."
We sat there for a couple minutes, just staring at each other, but not a weird or awkward stare, more like we were just enjoying each others company.
