Kuroko Tetsuya 03

.

.

What's your type of girl?

Kuroko: A gentle person.

(From Kuroko no Basuke Characters' Bible)

.

.

It was in their 6th year of grade school when the group of friends that Zaeri thought would stay together, broke apart.

Niwa went to a different school, one that actually paid more attention to his baseball skills and are planning to hone them.

Karen was still in the same school, but since she became really popular, she didn't like hanging around with them anymore.

And Kuroko.

Zaeri knew he wouldn't go back on his promise, but even when he wasn't doing anything wrong, he was still drifting away.

It was as if Zaeri was on land, and Kuroko was in the sea. Even when everything was quiet and there's nothing wrong, the tide will slowly pull him away.

Slowly, slowly.

Until she won't be able to see him anymore.

"Zaeri... I'm over here," Came a familiar but surprising voice infront of her.

"K-Kuroko!!" She yelped out, using her lunchbox as a weapon and staring, "Since when?! I've been looling for you-!!"

"I'm sorry. You looked spaced out a while back..."

They decided to try eating at the garden beside their school. And when she let Kuroko go ahead, she ended up looking everywhere for him, when he was JUST standing there the whole time.

As they were eating, her eyes focused on his stoic face and he couldn't help but ask, "Is there something on my face?"

She blinked and sank back, eyes still inquisitive, "Yeah."

"Oh," He starts wiping around his cheeks with the back of his hands but finds nothing stuck on him, "Um.. Are you sure?"

"Yes. Right here," She pokes his forehead with her finger, and Kuroko's hand follows.

"There's still nothing on..."

"You look tired,"

This time, it was Kuroko's turn to blink. After a while, he sighs and puts down his chopsticks, "So you noticed..."

"Was I not supposed to?"

"I hope so..."

Zaeri pouts and sets aside her lunchbox, edging over to Kuroko's side, "Friends can tell if something is wrong with each other, okay?"

"I see," Kuroko nods with a slight smile, then adds, "Well, you seem quieter in class."

Zaeri shot a look, "Same with you,"

"But you still manage to keep your rank,"

"You're doing well too,"

"Still, you seem less participative in recitations and going to the blackboard,"

"I don't see you either."

"You also seem-"

"Alright! Alright, I get it..." Zaeri cut him off before he could point out anything else.

Kuroko had a triumphant smile on, small but still visible. He finishes his lunch and closes it, eyeing on her, "And you lost weight,"

Zaeri blushed and unconsciously hugged herself in defence, "Don't look at me like that!"

"I'm sorry. I was just worried," Kuroko's eyes darted to her unfinished lunch beside her and this made her smile despite herself.

"I'll finish it, so don't worry,"

After finishing the last bit of her lunch, they sat there in comfortable silence, watching as the clouds moved ever so slowly across the blue sky.

It was Kuroko who broke the silence again, "Everyone's changing,"

"I know," Zaeri responds, closing her eyes and dropping her head, fringes covering her expression, "You did too..."

Kuroko looks at her, "Zaeri also changed. I hope you're not exhausting yourself or anything,"

"You're the one who's tired,"

"Compared to you who's studying hard to maintain or improve your rank, my tiredness is nothing,"

"Augh... Enough with that..." Zaeri did an facepalm and then glared, "We have our own problems. Don't compare it with each other."

Kuroko nods slightly, eyes fluttering close as he leaned back on the tree, "I guess I am tired afterall..."

The green-haired girl chuckles and slowly wraps her arm around his neck, pulling him down close to her lap. Kuroko tries to resist but he didn't anymore. Her hands guided his head down till he was laying on her lap.

"Get some rest. I'll wake you when the bell rings..." She whispered, stroking his surprisingly soft teal hair.

She hummed something for him, a soft and slow tune that seemed so relaxing. He relaxed under her touch until he finally closes his eyes. His breathing evened out until he found himself drifting off to sleep.

This is where he feels safe. Where he feels he can let his guard down.

If only he could stay this way forever.

If only he could stay safe with her forever.

Zaeri's yellow eyes darted to his peaceful sleeping face, before it slowly drifted to his pale neck. Her eyes widened a bit, staring intently at the bluish black marks that was nearly invisible through his polo collar.

Her mouth went agape, other hand carressing the wounds. Something was wrong, she could feel it. She could tell that Kuroko was going through something that he can't tell anyone.

Not even to her.

But she was fine with it. As long as she can be his shoulder. As long as she can be here for him when he really needs her.

As long as she can stay with him forever.

Still, she could feel something gnawing at the back of her mind, telling her to make sure she watches over him, or he might disappear...
