Eternity and Royalty

The doors are pulled open and I take in a sharp breath, only walking in because Travis was pretty much dragging me. This was it for us. this room is where we are going to be told our fate. if he keeps his title of Prince Travis, we will be separated. Its unheard of for a prince to marry a peasant. He could also, however, be stripped of his title and have to live as a peasant. like me. That way would be together, but...

I can't decide what is worse.

I briefly look around the enormous grand hall. everything sparkled like gold under the rays of the sun that peeked through the glass of the hall. Giant chandeliers hang from the tall, detailed ceilings, and the crystals reflected off tiny white dots down the isle we are walking down. There, at the end sat the Queen, and King, both with expressions I fail to read. why do they need to look so mean?

I hear the doors close behind us as we remain walking down the white fabric path laid out before us. its usually red, but it was white for special occasions. But why today?

The rows and rows of pews are feeling like an eternity to pass by. Perhaps, because I want so much to turn and run away with him. To not be told, "you cant be together" or "He shall live with the title of you, a peasant." I don't want that for him. to work until his skin is broken and rough. he deserves the luxury of the castle, but I also don't want to let him go, as selfish as it is. I just want us to have normal lives.

almost there.

I can feel my heart pounding out of my chest.

we come to a stop just after the first set of pews and bow awkwardly. Queen Aphmau links her hand into King Aaron's, and smiles at us both, warmly. She addresses us with an amused tone.

"Katelyn, our loyal subject."

She looks over at Travis.

"And our newest, a prince. Prince Travis."

I gulp, she didn't even give me any title, at all! not even, "Lady Katelyn". Nothing. Its worse then I thought. I would've panicked more if Travis didn't squeeze my hand. His voice speaks, as strong as ever, smiling wide. "Your highness's, if I may. I don't think Prince is suiting-"

King Aaron cuts him off. "now, now. I know what you are going to say. You would like to revoke your title to become a peasant, and then be with Katelyn?"

Travis blinks, his smile softening slightly.

"yes, your majesty."

Aaron looks to Aphmau, and nods. Travis assumes and goes to kiss my forehead when Aaron speaks again.

"no."

((SWITCHY SWITCHY AARON STOPPED THAT KISSY KISSY))

I immediately let my jaw drop, ready to beg. "What...?"

The king stands, The queen shortly standing beside him. Aaron smiles "we have bigger plans for you."

It was a long silence. too long.

"...annnd that would mean what, exactly?"

I look at Katelyn, as her words were kind of sarcastic, especially towards the king.

He smiles, however, softly.

"He remains a prince. As you know, this kingdom is vast, and hard to run with only one set of monarchs. We insist to divide the kingdom into two, a north and south."

He snaps and a young butler comes briskly out, carrying a deep purple, plush velvet pillow topped with a silver crown like Aaron's, but his was gold. It sparkled like new snow in the morning sun, embedded with jewels of rich, shimmering beauty. It was perfect for a king.
