((This extra chapter is bought to you by my whiney friends))
I immediately dash through the corridors and through the halls to the east wing where my bedroom lay. I know she'll be in there, my wife. We got married not four months ago.
But loved each other for two whole years before the marriage.
And when I crash through the door, she is there, staring out at the ocean in her chair, a cup of tea in her delicate pale hands.
She doesn't look up, but that's normal for her recently. She enjoys zoning out of reality and dreaming of the future.
"Katelyn!"
My voice perks her up. She sets her tea down and turns to me, standing up slowly and opening her arms. I run over and hug her tight, lifting her off the ground. "What did she say? What did she say? Is it true? Is this real?" I have a million things too ask her.
"Oh Travis. Put me down, I'll tell you."
I oblige and male her sit, kneeling on the ground with my arms folded and head on her lap. I really hope it's true.
She smiles, brushing her fingers through my hair and nodding. She grins and tears up. "Yes."
I can't help myself. I lean forward and hug her by her slightly inflated stomach. It's true!
Katelyn giggles. "We're going to have a baby!"
I jump at her and pull her to her feet, hugging her tighter then ever. "I love you. I love both of you. I'm so excited."
She laughs and kisses me, the soft way she usually does. I enjoy her love.
It was a few hours until I saw her though. I get called to a lot of matters lately. Minor issues, usually. Nothing too terrible happens around here.
But as I walk down the polished hallways, something is off. A feeling, really, like I'm being watched. I can't help glancing over my shoulder. It's too quiet in these halls. luckily there will be a baby to make tons of noise soon enough.
Then, the feeling is gone as I hear a delighted scream. I smile. Katelyn was never good at keeping quiet.
((pffft))
I up my pace to where I find her, hugging her brothers and father. They look over at me and grin. she must've told them already. Her oldest brother claps me on the back when I get in arms reach, giving a amused "Nice job, princey boy." and I laugh, as her dad gives an approving nod.
"I didn't think you guys would get here so soon" I say, to get the conversation up.
"ah, well," Eric, my father in law starts. "we can never deny my sugar pea a visit, especially with this news. I was hoping that you two would have children before I go."
I look to Katelyn, then back to her father. I never really noticed how worn out he looks. since demons live for basically forever, I don't take notice of ageing. His hair is almost fully grey now, and despite the new clothes and food we provide them, he still seems thin and smells of the mines. I now look at his hands, the stained skin still cracked and wrinkled and scarred. He is... so old.
He gives me a half smile, like hes following my thoughts, and I give a slight smile back.
"Oh! Dad! you have to see the baby room. it doesn't have much in it yet... but its got the most beautiful view of the sea. I'm sure you'll love it. And I'll have rooms prepared for you guys. Stay as long as you want. I have so much to tell you and show you. please stay for a few days, please?"
she reaches out, her smooth silk skin taking the worn in hers. "Tell me you'll stay."
He smiles warmly, the edges of his moustache curving up. "of course sugar pea. But only a few days, I want to get back to harvest. "
She blinks, squeezing his hands. "You're... still working? why? It's too much for your bones. you know that.."
He nods, his mile fading. "I know Katelyn. It's hard, but I always enjoyed the harvest. being out all day, the sun shining down on you. I really like it. "
he kisses her cheek, pushing stray hairs from her face.
"No need to remind me of my age, dear. I know. I think this harvest will be my last. I just want to try and do something. just a bit. "
Her eyes downcast, and Kasey breaks the silence with: "where is the baby room Katelyn?"
She perks a bit, obviously remembering what she wanted to show them. "ah, yes, this way."
and they all head of past me, toward whatever room she chose for the baby.
((POV AND TIME CHANGE.))
"My brothers just left." I say into the dim room as I sit unto the bed.
"you convinced him to stay?" He rolls over to face me, surprised.
"not exactly. He wasn't too happy when they agreed with me." I lay down, covering myself and scooting closer to him. He wraps his arm around me, rubbing my side soothingly.
"I see....Will he be okay?" He says it with a certain sadness that I don't like. He talks like hes...gone.
"He will be fine. He won't like living here, but with enough things to do, he will be okay."
Travis cuddles me close, kissing my throat and muttering softly. "I love you. "
"We love you too."
