4: Questions and Answers

Beep.......beep......beep.
Ugh what's going on? What's happening?
" H-hello? Where am I?" I stutter.
I awoke to wires in my arms and a white, clean room. A beeping noise echoed around the room.
" Oh honey. Your in a hospital. Everything's going to be ok. Ok?" Mom assured me.
" What did I do?" I wondered.
All I remember was the shadow and fear taking over my body. Oh. I remember. The sharp pain increasing throughout my body, the cries for mercy and help. I remember it all too well.
" Something happened. Don't worry though, your in good hands." The nurse said as she pushed some buttons in the machine next to me.
" Are you hungry?" She asked.
" A little." I admitted.
The nurse abruptly left, the clicks of her heels getting fainter. I looked around and I was surrounded by people.
Brody, mom, dad, wait what's Jade doing here?
" Jade? Is that you?" I question.
" Oh my god Joslyn! Are you alright? I missed you!" She cried, coming in for a bear hug.
Jade and I go way back. We were born in the same hospital! She's the only other person who's not a witch, that knows about Evelyn. She's my best friend. She moved around a lot, but that didn't stop us from being best friends. Then I found out that she liked the same person I liked. Ryan Gatsbey. The hottest boy in town. Yes, granted Brody is hot too, but from a 15 year old girls perspective, he's ain't as hot as Ryan. Anyways she got mad at me and I got mad at her. We were only 11 years old. What did you expect? And of course we parted ways. And what made it even worse was that, she moved. It was sad not having her around, but I got used to it, and I hid in my hoodie and drawings.
" Jade I miss you too, but why are you here?"
" To see you again. And to hope your alright. When mother told me, I freaked! Why?" She pondered.
" Oh nothing. Just glad to see you here. Ugh my head hurts." I groaned, nestling my face into the pillow.
" Are you alright?"
" I'll get the nurse." Dad says.
" Guess what Joslyn? I'm moving back to Regal Cliff! ( name of town) We'll be in high school together!" Jade squealed.
" Really!" I sat up in excitement.
" Yup!" She smiled then looked at her watch. Her smile slowly faded as she looked up.
" I have to go. Mother is going to be worried. See you later Joslyn!" She calls, blowing a kiss to me as she leaves.
Suddenly the nurse runs in, placing the tray of food on the desk, and feels my head.
" You alright dear?"
" My head just hurts." I whined.
" Here take this." She hands me a red and white pill, and a glass of water.
I gulp it down, and lay back, closing my eyes.
" Sorry everybody but she needs to rest. Come back later tonight!" The nurse announces.
" Bye munchkin, I'll be right back." My father says, kissing me on my forehead before he and my mom leave the room.
" If your hungry, the food is on the desk ok?" The nurse says, leaving the room.
I nod and close my eyes as I slowly drift asleep.

As my eyes peel open, I see a figure writhing on the couch.
" Mom?" I call out.
As the figure becomes clearer, I see that it is my mom. Her face is emotionless but she's staring right at me.
" Hey Mom." I smile.
She doesn't answer. She moves closer, her body  rigid.
" Mom?"
What's wrong with her?
She's standing right above me, her gaze focusing only on me. She takes out something from her back pocket and draws it to my neck.
Is that a dagger? What the heck mom? What's going on? Hellooo?
She's about t-
" Honey? Wake up!"
" Whut?"
I slowly open my eyes, sitting straight up and I touch my neck.
" You were screaming!" Mom says, her face immersed in worry.
Oh thank god it was just a dream!
" I'm alright. Just had a bad dream." I assure.
Suddenly familiar footsteps cascade down the hall and stop at me room.
" Oh hey Joanne!" I say smiling to the nurse.
" Hi Joslyn! Great news. You'll be leaving today!"
" Yay!"
" Now I just need you to fill out some paperwork before you go." Joanne tells my parents.
Finally out of this cell. Wait. Oh no. Mom's going to be so mad when we get home! Damn it.  Wonder when I'll ever get to see Evelyn again.

The car pulls up to our driveway and I burst through the door, jumping onto my bed.
Ahh. Home sweet home.
" Joslyn." Mom says in a stern voice.
" Yes?"
" Come over here we need to talk."
Ugh.
I roll off my bed and walk to the kitchen. There she is. Little miss perfect. Her hands placed on her hips, her face in a solid glare.
" Why were you at the pond?" She points at me, her eyes glaring.
" I was walking home from Brody's and I got lost." I lied.
Well technically I didn't lie. I just stretched the truth.
" And YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT?" She yells, her voice increasing my the minute.
" Uh, well I-" She cuts me off.
" YOU SHOULD'VE KNOWN BETTER. YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN US KILLED! THAT PLACE IS DANGEROUS, WHAT IF EVELYN DIDN'T COME? HUH? HUH?"
Did she just ro-
She cuts me off again!
Seriously. Calm the eff down!!
" I'm sorry! I'm sorry that I want to see my twin sister again. I'm sorry that I was stupid and careless. I'm sorry you don't have a HEART!" I scream.
She stops. She just stares at me, not making a single sound.
Uh oh. I went too far. Wayy to far.
